Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

Dr Faiza Asghar is not the MD of Doctor Hospital. It was wrongly propogated by media. She writes MD with her name bcz of her ''Doctor of Medicine'' degree from USA.

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

I don't know details of this case, but seems like another case of nursing f'ing up and a doctor getting sued for it.

Docs write perscriptions. Ex. They write "Insulin X dosage X time period" etc. They will not write on their perscription "Please make sure to give them insulin that has been sitting out of a fridge for one year". Their job is not to walk into a pharmacy and say "hey, are all your meds needing refrigeration actually in a refrigerator?"

That is the job of ancillary staff (nursing, pharmacists, etc). Hospital and pharmacy office managers need to supervise this, and fix problems (like get a new fridge for the meds). The gov't is supposed to oversee compliance being met in these areas.

So, I don't understand why she didn't hold her ground. The lawsuit should have been against the hospital management.

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

There is another shocking story of a guy called Naseer Ahmed Khan who died after 6 surgeries in less than 4 months at Doctor's Hospital.

I have not been able to find any authentic source for its verification though. If anyone of you know about it, please share.

Naseer's Tragedy:

***"Just before ramadan 2009: we take Naseer to Dr Shaukat Mirza at Doctors Hospital, to get examined. Upon medical examination, the doctor declares Naseer still has obstruction in stomach and needs surgery

***2nd ramadan 2009: Naseer undergoes surgery by Dr Shaukat Mirza and Dr Asad Jawad at Doctors Hospital. Obstruction is apparently removed and Naseer gets discharged after 8 days.
The same day he was discharged, Naseer starts vomiting BLOOD. he starts to get unconscious and haemoglobin falls from 12 (over 10 required for normal person) to the critical level of 4. we rush him back to Doctors Hospital.

***Naseer undergoes another surgery at sehri time, the very next day he is discharged, by the same surgeons. the explanation given to us is that by "coincidence" a blood vessel got ruptured in his stomach - causing him to vomit blood. they tell us that this can happen to anyone/anytime and it was just "luck". HAVE YOU EVER HEARD PEOPLE FALLING ILL BECAUSE A RANDOM BLOOD VESSEL BURST IN THE STOMACH AND THEY STARTED THROWING UP BLOOD???.

***Naseer is recovering from this 4th surgery in about 3 months - and he has gone without any food and water during this time. on the 7th post-operative day, it is discovered that Naseer has now developed an internal leakage, whereby his stomach is now leaking and his digestive fluids (bile) is leaking in his body. after 48 hours (i.e. the 9th day from his first surgery at Doctors Hospital), Naseer is taken for another surgery to fix the leak - the 3rd surgery at Doctors Hospital!
Naseer comes out of this surgery and the doctors tell us they have been unable to fix the leak...... Naseer now starts developing internal infection with fever touching 105F!!!

***during this time his antibiotic treatment, based on Doctors Hospital lab's culture sensitivity report turns out to be wrong - as proven by Aga Khan Hospital's culture sensitivity report.

***Eid day: amidst all the pain, no food and water, high fever - Naseer develops breathing problems and is taken to ICU. We are told he is now suffering from ARDS i.e. his lungs have failed and he is put on a ventilator and his health starts to deteriorate rapidly.

***Within Doctors Hospital's ICU, doctors manage to puncture Naseer's lungs by poor management of ventilator settings. his chest is cut again to insert pipes in to his lungs, while he is in constant sedation and in near coma state
Naseer's health is deteriorating fast and cause of infection is not known and he needs CT-SCAN badly to ascertain cause of infection??!! BUT THE CT-SCAN MACHINE AT DOCTORS HOSPITAL IS NOT WORKING!!!!! WE ARE UNABLE TO TAKE HIM OUTSIDE AS DOCTORS HOSPITAL DOES NOT HAVE A MOBILE VENTILATOR
3 October 2009: Naseer undergoes his 6th surgery in less than 4 months (4 of which in one month and at Doctors Hospital) to prevent the infection from spreading. This surgery is on a patient now on full ventilator support, with great risk of death on the surgery table. This surgery discovers that the drains placed by doctors previously to prevent his bile from leaking inside, have actually tore through this small intestine and have been aiding the spread of infection, instead of preventing it!

7 October 2009: Naseer is declared dead at Doctors Hospital.....
Naseer a perfectly healthy 29 year old man, after 6 surgeries in less than 4 months, left behind him a grieving widow, parents and siblings. During this time, he felt unparalleled pain and poor, inhuman, unprofessional, inadequate care from the doctors, nurses and other staff at doctors hospital. we were kept in total darkness and told only to "pray" while these butchers were mercilessly slaughtering my brother! in the end they succeeded in killing my brother and extracting Rs3million from us, while we we still can not understand how these people managed to blow something small in to a life taker! they lied and maltreated my brother and the family."

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

and i think these are only that come out in press. my wife actually worked in this hospital for 2 years as a Doctor too and stories she has told me about some consultants were horrible. while there were few good bunch of experts at the helm of this hospital there were also few worst ones who were there for only money and not because of their professionalism.

The only thing i find shocking in this story is Naseer getting dischargedone day after his second surgery when his HB was only 4, just a day ago.

Rest of the complications could have and actually do occur even in best hospitals of the world.

It seems in this case the doctor prescribed higher than usual doses of painkillers, which it appears mighthave been sedatives, resuting in respiratory compromise. However, reading the father's version, i think he is partly to be blamed. The girl was given 2 injection and the father was still complaining that she is crying and had no releif. These i want a quick fix type of guys are of no good.

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

Pain meds get finnicky, but even here in the States, if you keep asking for pain meds, docs are obliged to write pain perscriptions even if it does lead to respiratory compromise. Provided that the patient is informed of the side effects. Most docs are scared crap to up the dose of opioids, though, and so patients here often complain that the pain meds aren't enough. But legally speaking, a doc could have done the same thing here and I don't think it would have been illegal. As long as the patient was asking for the pain med and knew the side effects.

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

imanae was rushed to hospital during eid holidays. the doctor (medical officer) on duty did the dressing on her burn and gave her oral painkiller (which is the routine management strategy for such minor burn cases) but her father was not happy with the treatment and told the doctor to 'calm down' the girl as she was obviously irritable due to pain. The doctor, after insisted upon by the father, gave her phenergen orally which is a mild sedative for kids. still unsatisfied, the family created fuss of not treating her properly and requested to call a senior doctor. A doctor on duty from the surgery ward was called upon, who prescribed antibiotic and tried to reassure the family that she'll be fine in some time but they wanted to take her after she is completely calm. they gave her IV dormicum which is another sedative but ofcourse was given in less doses since her condition didnt require a sedative in first place. still, the family got furious and finally the doctor from neonatal icu (dr sandeep) was called upon to deal with the patient. now THIS guy was not a hospital employee but was replacing his friend for some hours during eid holidays. he unfortunately prescribed PAVLON which is a muscle relaxant used to calm down kids on a ventilator, which obviously he didnt know much about. it was this drug which, when injected caused her death. overdose or underdose, the drug was not meant to be given to anyone not on ventilator support.

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

^ finally the other side of the story, that makes a lot more sense than what our hysterical media has been reporting. no doubt, a very tragic incident.

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

Even dormicum should not have been given. But if she was given a muscle relaxant then they have indeed killed her, thats criminal negligence. The hospital should pay the family losses for employing a doctor who did not frickin know what he is prescribing.

And this father should be whipped a little as well, our children get hurt too and we take them to hospitals, we understand that not everything is a quick fix and trying to hae a quick fix can be a disaster, idiot.

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

i have a close relative in there and i have no doubts about it being true. we,doctors, call it 'do more' phenomenon when relatives create fuss esp at private hospitals and want doctors to do magic on their patient. ofcourse i am NOT blaming the family or defending the doctors but such circumstances have mostly caused confusions and hastiness giving unfortunate results ultimately.

Re: Doctor’s Hospital declared guilty

also unluckily, pavlon, which is out of stock in most of the hospitals around since months and they are using alternatives in surgeries and ICUs, the doctor came up with the idea of prescribing the drug AND the pharmacist even found it at the counter :bummer: one event leading to another and causing the death..like they say maut kay darwaazay khud-ba-khud khulltay gaye :frowning:

the doctor who prescribed was not even an employee there. he was there in place of a friend who is actually employed there in NICU and was covering the duty for a few hours ! they made him confess in written about the drug he prescribed but he managed to escape later and hasn't been arrested yet !

Re: Doctor's Hospital declared guilty

^Prototype, giving a muscle relaxant is a sure way of killing someone. Previously i thought she probably had overdosage of benzodiazipines or opiates but muscle relaxant thats a guilty verdict straight away.

Even then its the hospitals responsibility. The hospital must have a mechanism whereby a person not employed should not be treating a patient. And if more than one doctor decided to give muscle relaxant then thats even worse. I thought may teh guy just didn't know what pavlon is.

That actually shows that uness a “system” is devised such deaths wil continue to happen. A qualified pharmacist must know why a drug is being given and or what reason. Many a times doctors may write a wrong dose just by mistake like writing 4 times a day for a drug supposed to bet taken once daily, in proper places the pharmacist willl call the doctor and refuse the prescription.

ofcourse it is a massive blunder. he admitted that he felt pavlon was given to restless patients but he forgot that those patients are supposed to be on a ventilator as well.
