Doctor Rishtas

Re: Doctor Rishtas

Transporting people home in limos??? Seriously?

Re: Doctor Rishtas

I agree with you snobbishness is sometimes over the top with desis and not just Pakistanis.
So if someone went to that fundraiser and wore a sari or lehnga where would that fit in? I doubt anyone would because it’s not comfortable it’s interesting with the hierarchy of clothes. if someone wore western clothes like dress or skirt where would that fit in?
I heard APPNA is having elections in 2014, would you participate? And generally speaking how conservative or liberal is the Pakistani american medical establishment? Do they lean more Democrat or Republican?

Re: Doctor Rishtas

how many hungry children could have been fed in Pakistan with that 1 limo per patient. It's not even a tangible thing. Once you go home as if you'll remember 3 years later about the wonderful limo you were on. I mean how many people remember their hospital experience or want to. Having a limousine may make that final experience in that journey a positive one. Maybe it's for publicity but they will cut the service after a few months.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

Why do people come with how many people could be saved somewhere far whenever they do not agree with something. Very typical argument which has no real sincerity at times.

Everyone should ride a bicycle. So some poor African kid can have one meal every day.

The point is just do whatever you can and refrain from criticizing others.

ADDED: APPNA is not a 'national political organization'. It is involved with many good projects all over the world. Individuals may have their own political inclination just like anyone.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

excessive use of latex gloves, a no-no.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

While some desi doctors are snobby we can’t generalise and say all are. There are some Pakistani American doctors are pretty cool, open minded and awesome.
Like this Pakistani american doctor, professor at Harvard medical school, who married famous white American soprano singer Heather Schmidt, nominee of 2 grammy awards. She seems happy

Masha’Allah she’s so cute and she sang a very beautiful song for Pakistan. You can see it on showbiz Pakistan thread.

I love the way she inspired love of Pakistan in him and how she wants to visit places common people go to and the way he explained profession doesnt matter. People in any profession can be good and bad but it is how you use that talent. She is an opera singer and she raises money for charity like for earthquake in Pakistan and how she helped Edhi foundation. The way she inspired him to come back to Pakistan and contribute in the aftermath of the natural tragedy was beautiful. The way she explained to him you should go back to take care of people’s physical health and i will go back to heal people mentally. He still saved the sms she sent him about that. A beautiful combination of east and west. Then in that video she mentions there was a moment after a concert in Pakistan where some 16-17 yr old guy (at 19:35) strapped with semi automatic gun under his jacket met her after the show. He said he was going to take her out but hearing her words changed his heart and changed his actions.

His words at 32 min to “give space to wife and they should have freedom to do what they want” is important for all to hear especially maybe the close minded doctors or others who do not believe that. Wise words of a happy husband and happy marriage. Especially the way he explained his Lucknowi culture(where his ancestors were originally from)

I also love how they met at a meditation class and how she was always interested in East like India, Pakistan. and how he proposed he said he doesnt want a wife but a friend. Wives you can get many but friends as wives less. Then she said same thing to him. And how he said i have not met anyone so beautiful physically or mentally.

Its on Pakistani american docs mods…so i think it is relevant. self correct me if it’s not. thanks guys  you rock.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

So I go to the show, and I am there, ready to donate and to take a seat somewhere, and I am waiting for my ticket. I was wearing a simple shalwaar kameez, nothing fancy, because unlike other girls, I do *and this is what I do for a living. At that point, THE ENTIRE WORLD changed.
*

I was ushered into a front seat by the stage, for crying out loud, when the ticket I purchased would have put me towards the back, and I was introduced to other doctor families.

^

Abhay, so if I am a frikkin pharmacist, or a businesswoman, or a real estate agent, I don't get that kind of VIP treatment?

Choro, these families are ALL about the show.

That's why I say they treat docs like demi gods, desis in the US.

but uss show mein sab doctors honge. aam insaan aur patient ke liye shayad zyaada difference na ho. im really interested about the clothing hierarchy and the HSY clothes that get you frnt seat. i wonder where western dress or wearing a sari would come in.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

hmm..but if you think of it every action has equal and opposite reaction. So hard to tell which came first.

Its actually both, you have to look posh and get into the "doctor group"/ in crowd". There are actually some non doctors in doctor groups and they are more snobbish than the docs!

Re: Doctor Rishtas

Latex free gloves are also available. Next time ask for those.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

Limos? Seriously?

PS: this wasn't said for last three posts.....so i completed the routine.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

LOL was JUST about to say this.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

Being a doctor in the US means a decent to very luxurious living. You get the status of being married to a doctor, and your kids will probably benefit by having a highly educated dad. Doesnt mean its all great, if the guy is a doctor, automatically, his job will be priority, even if u make like 80K+ obviously they will make more then you, also doc’s are competivite, you have to really try to maintain ur looks as well. I have a cousin who is married to a doc. She is a stay at home wife/highschool drop out. She makes working out and looking her best her priority. She even got breast implants. The point is everything is a give and take, you can’t get a guy who is doctor, and u have nothing to offer.

As for everyone saying i rejected a doctor, good for you. But frankly speaking, you had to consider the rishta, in order to reject. No body is going to reject a doctor because he is a doctor. You would reject for some other reason at that point. Lets be honest, in guys you look for education/family/job/income. For girls the first thing is looks then everything else.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

so how did the highschool dropout become a match to daaktar? is he a homeo doctor? :\

Re: Doctor Rishtas

^ Perhaps she knew how to make perfectly round rotis. :halo:

I know women (including one of my cousin’s) who refuse to be married to a doctor b/c of their hectic/long hours. Nothing wrong with that. It’s no different than women who don’t want a husband that travels a lot b/c of job.

Re: Doctor Rishtas

That hospital is just an extension of the Desi craze with doctors. They realllly think its something outta this world and develop vicious personalities due to this ridiculous idea of prestige.

And we are all sioo off topic but I had to give my opinion after reading about something so crazy.

Sigh don't we just wanna get people healthy and send em home. Really hope the gov takes over and the salaries go down then I'll see who does it to "help" people. Then I'll happily make lesser money and help people.

Just boggles the mind... You'll never see a thread on engineer rishtas etcc...

PS: imagine going yo a doctor with diwanas personality. Wonder who even let him in a hospital ;)

Re: Doctor Rishtas

They are cousins, and he needed a greencard. Before the wedding she acted like 100% perfect housewife material
