I think we r the coolest not because we are desis but because we are Muslims! And we should be only proud about this fact, since Allah does not like "garoor" or considering oneself superior to others on the basis of nationality.

I recently went to a cool Desi who cooked the coolest baryani on earth. We talked about some other West Coast and Chicago cool Desis and I learned that they are way too cool (just as I had imagined). Next cool get together is soon when another cool Desi from a really Cold place is coming to NYC on business. I don’t think it can get any cooler than that (only if some cool guys from Chicago and CA could join us).

seriously though, it's like using the term 'Asian' to describe all of us. The same way that the term 'negro' is used to describe a black person.
We're not all the same. I for one am Pakistani.
Therefore if you call me a desi or an asian, you are implying that I could be either Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, or even Bangladeshi. We're not all the same, just as the British, French, Germaninians (?), norwegians, finnish are all European, but not all the same!

as far as why I think desis are the coolest people...lets look beyond the outward looks and fashion sense whichnot everyone is good at, but the inherent coolness.. the sincerity, the strength of friendship, the value of family bonds, the respect for elders, the concern for siblings, the love for family..even extended family, the informarlity among friends..
This all comes from the inside. No other group has the combination of these qualities..
..thus desis are the coolest.
