Islamic punishments are strictly executed by an Islamic Judiciary.
No person from public is allowed to take matter in his hand.
Javed Ahmad Ghamidi has examined all hadith related to Rajm in his book Burhan.
Based on principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, such as the one from Shatibi, who writes that Sunnah is either explanation of the Qur'an or addition to the Qur'an.
If it is an explanation, then its status is secondary otherwise, it will only be considered addition if it is not discussed by the Qur'an.
Ghamidi concludes that Quranic punishment for Zina in verse [Qur'an 24:2] does not leave a room for another interpretation. He also writes that stoning can only be prescribed for someone who rapes or habitually commits fornication as prostitutes, as it constitutes maleficence in the land and punishable according to verses [Qur'an 5:33].

I am not sure if there is or isnt a reference in regards to this. However, castration IMO is a punishment that fits the crime. Unless someone tells me that it goes against the folds of Islam .....I still believe it's the way to go.

For those who think that rehab and counselling is the answer for repeat offenders who molest children....its been proven time and again that it does NOT work. When someone is sexually attracted to children, this will never change. Its like trying to convince a heterosexual to stop being attracted to the opposite sex. The wiring in their brains is faulty and cannot be fixed.
I agree completely with execution for sexual offenses against children. Or castration. Physical castration. Because while chemical castration does work, its only a temporary thing, lasts about 3 months. If their brain is permanently wired to be attracted to children then take away their "weapon" permanently and completely. I have no sympathy for them.
One thing what is the punishmnt in Islam for sex offenders who have not raped the child but molested them.

Anway reading most of replies I gatherd that most of you think that it is a mental disorder or disease..to quote one" The wiring in their brains is faulty and cannot be fixed" and etc. So if it is a disorder then how they are at fault...why are we debating Islamic PUNISHMENT for a disease? Isn't it better to try to treat the mental disorder for which there are insane asylam or do we just kill the mental patients.
(Or I guess the solution to this would be child marriages as well)

I guess we are on the same page here as I have already tried to bring their kind attention about providing greater social utility than execution /castration

No. It does not. The motivation to commit pedophilia is not primarily a sexual drive. This is the misconception. These people get off on abusing others, and being dominant. As is said, the brain is the most powerful sexual organ. Not the genitals.
It is a mindset that they have. The are rapists, who abuse those weaker than them. The penis is merely the preferred weapon. Remove that, they still have other body parts and implements they can use to abuse.

It depends whom you called a CHILD. In Islam, marriage has nothing to do with age. Puberty is the criteria in Islam.

When some body waves a green signal for castration , He/she is actually going against the basic teaching of Islam . Where Islam caters for the physical and the psychological fitness of prisoners.
In Islam, prisoners, like all other members of society, have their rights.
They should be treated with care and get the due educational and religious courses that help them improve psychologically and be good citizens after they get out of the prison.
While in prison, they are not to be tortured or the like. Earlier Ask99 mentioned a case happened in USA , where the chap was killed by fellow prisoners.
Neither I, as a human being nor Islam as a religion of peace supports such moronic behaviour.
Let us just focus on the main issue and deal with the Prohibitions in disciplining or dealing with prisoners
Mutilating. It is not permitted to punish a prisoner by cutting off any part of his body or breaking any of his bones.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mutilation of prisoners of war and said, "Do not mutilate." (Narrated by Muslim).
Now why am I against castration …. because of the humiliation involved and I am afraid it will further expose them to more physical and psychological illness

There is a difference between POW's and petty criminals, so you just cant bring that hadith as an arguements against Castration.
In fact, its eye for an eye in Islam, so if you attack someone's sexual organ (of a rape victim), your sexual organ should be attacked ..(by law enforcers)
