Do you read on an airplane?

And, what book you’d recommend to read on a long plane journey?

I plan to read “Wind, Sand and Stars” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery on my way from Heathrow to Lahore.

^Yes please, name a few.

Re: Do you read on an airplane?

Always! I hate talking to strangers on a plane so I always bring a book. I'll say hello to my seatmate then promptly turn away and start reading my book.

Re: Do you read on an airplane?

Urdu
- Main Nay Dhaka Doobtay Dekha (Saddique Salik)
- London-London (Qamer Ali Abbasi)
- Amrica Muut Jaiyooo (Qamer Ali Abbasi)
- Butt-soortiaaaan (Dr younus Butt)

English
- The Last Step: The American Ascent of K2 (Rick Ridgeway)
- Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations...One School at a Time (Greg Mortenson)

I used to carry 3-4 books on plane but lately those books are replaced by notebook. No place like non stop Toront-Khi flight (13+ hours) to work

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini.

I've seen people do tht on tube too, it's a good way of avoiding eye contact. :D

Thanks. Very good choice of books.

Saddique Salik, is it the same person who was with Zia-ul-Haq during the plane crash? And what about "Surkh/laal feeta", is it writen by him too?

I've heard lots of praises of "Three cups of tea", it's on my list.

And Younus Butt should definitely be read on plane, it'd make the journey much more pleasant.

Yes he was actually Brig Gen Siddique Salik and dies with Zia Ul Haq. He fought 3-4 wars and was also the prisoner of war in 1971 i guess

Re: Do you read on an airplane?

I would lovee to talk to strangers…and get to know a lil more abt them…
but I travel with family..so its family ka koe sitting with me :bummer:

Re: Do you read on an airplane?

The worst thing is, I can’t sleep on a plane - I’m weirded out by the idea of sleeping while strangers are around me. So I read or watch the in-flight movies. I came back from India last year and I traveled back by myself (total flight time was 17 hours). I watched at least 6 movies just to kill the time

Re: Do you read on an airplane?

I can sleep just anywhereeeeeeee while traveling :cb:

Re: Do you read on an airplane?

Yeah, ayat ul kursi. Non stop.

I can relate to this.

I didnt use to sleep on planes too but when I started taking flight over Pacific (LA to Pakistan) with 14 hours non-stop over Pacific ocean, I changed my habit.

I used to make myself dead tired a day before the journey and normally did not use to sleep a night before. That helped me take 6-8 hours non-stop sleep on the plane. with a note to Air hostesses to not wake me up for any meal…

made my life so easy!
