I hope now that I am putting the right reason 
.. astronomers discovered objects larger than Pluto in our solar system in the asteroid belt that sits beyond pluto but still within our solar system. So instead of classifying those larger-than-pluto objects as planets, they kicked Pluto out of the planet class.
