I pray at work. its easier because there are 5-6 arabs in my office. Its good for me as it makes me regular. One of our VP is Muslim and he has a big room so we can easily manage. I can't in my own room as it has huge windows.
Yeah wudu is kind of difficult. I don't wash my feet in the sink. I just wet the paper towel and use it for feet.
Yeah I am able to pray at work, especially more so now that it is Ramadan. I discovered there are a good 25-30 muslims in my co that I never knew of. God bless this guy, he arranged a big conference room everyday during lunch time for ramadan so people can go there to pray. I am not on that floor so usually we have a extra "rest room" so I normally just go there. I am a bit nervous telling everyone my business when asked...I shouldn't but fact is I am. As for Wudu, I usually do masa on my feet...its REALLY hard to take off shoes at work, forget about socks and stuff. Khair Allah knows best.
i usually go home for lunch anyways.... in ramadan i go home and read zohar namaz during my lunch hour. I can easily talke off my sox and do wudu.
I guess i could read at work...but its so much easier at home and I don't have to answer people's questions ... even though they know i'm fasting anyways.
yep..this is the truth...
most of who are even praying at work feel shy about it ....
why....?
I know we should not be....
and so what if they ask questions...
I mean won't it be a type of dawah if they do and we answer intelligently ?
I don't have other muslims where I work. There are muslims (at least by name , but I was the first one to ask for a place to pray...so My boss showed me the library where we keep technical information.
As for wudu I also do masah... but I am really really shy when it comes to doing wudu infront of someone ....
I shouldn't be...
How do you deal with making wudu ...do you just take off your shoes in the mens/ladies room and start a washin....
Do you feel shy to tell your co-workers that you need a break for prayers and instead just make Qada at home...
Do you make excuses that you need to do something....and then run to make your prayer
This is not a poll...
I face some hardship dealing with this stuff at work...so wanted to get others input on how and what they experience...
Thoughts????
Alhamdulillah, yes I pray at work. I don't really consider taking off my shoes to make wudhu to be a big deal. I don't feel shy at all. When I go to pray, I just say that I'm going to pray.

Well i'm a student and we have an MSA so i guess its easier for me to do that, plus my class schedule allows for it so ther'es no problem.. i'm not regular but i'm trying to be..i usually make wudu at home, butif i have to do it at school, ill take my shoes off in the msa nad take a pair of flipflops to the bathroom (its right across the hall, alot of grlz do that). My difficulties with praying are somewhat differnet than yours..my problem is with the grlz who like to talk and talk and talk and talk while others are praying..
**Its brilliant where I work as we have a 50-50 mix. The only problem we have is acutally from our own Muslims who acutally complained that it would look bad if we prayed and they didn’t. What would the ghora think ? These same people acutally complained that we should not wash our feet in the sinks as this is where they washed their hands. When I explained to them my feet were probably cleaner than some of their hands they did not know what to say. Isn’t it a shame that our own people are afraid to practise their deen. **
I think it's silly to feel embarrassed of what others think. As a gori, I can tell you that you probably care more about it than they do. Before I was muslim, I had muslim coworkers, and I was never bothered about them going to pray. That was back in the early 90's and in a small town.
I just tell my co-workers I'm going for prayers, make my wudu if necessary, pray, and return to work. I usually do masah, and I always wipe up any water that I splash around the sink. Most people are more put off by the mess left behind in the bathroom than they are by you going to pray.
yeah everyone know in my group/section that the scedhule on my calender at 1:30 is for my prayers but its the wudu part i am a little shy about. Since the restroom is not private and you have to take off shoes and stuff infront of people...who don't understand...
but i am now trying to get over this thing...if they ask it will be a good dawah opportunity...
2- Never felt embarrased taking a break for namaz.
3- Sometimes if I wasn't in the mood for details i would excuse myself with any generic excuse. Not due to embarrasment though.
I don't agree to the towel wiping....I don't think any school of thought allows that...
so I'd rather wipe over my socks or shoes as that is atleast one accepted opinion...
but I don't feel shy about the prayer...and I am working on the wudu part as well..
:JAZAK:
That is certainly pathetic..
If htey choose not to pray, that’s their business and we have no right to judge them for it but for them to actualy complain about others praying and stuff, that’s certainly ignorance…very shameful indeed
