In addition to not being able to budget for festivals outside the two eids, I do consider these an infraction of my faith and do not want my kids / nephews / nieces picking up these customs.
Infraction of faith because in the time of the pagans, before the Roman empire adopted Christianity, the fir tree was considered to have divine powers (all other trees die out in winter, this one doesn’t) and thus they would bring it inside their houses and worship it. When the Romans adopted Christianity this tradition too seeped in and became religion.
Growing up in Pakistan there are alot of cultural festivities we celebrate that we have picked up from other influences. This is no different. Only human nature in action. Except as a muslim I have been told to stay away from all festivities except the two eids. Trying my best.
That being said,
Does that mean that we are suppose to be happy jolly on only two days out of 365 days? So we should be sad and feeling miserable for the rest of the year because we can’t celebrate anything else? No wonder Muslims are so so full of anger all the times.

No, I believe he said that Muslims are an unhappy lot because they may be too rigid and uptight. 
I guess it all boils down to various interpretations of the religion of Islam by Muslims at large.

We haven’t put a tree up yet but yeah, might do..
I see it as more of a cultural issue than a religious one (bit like a bride wearing a white gown for her wedding)..

What is this desi desperation to question another desi why he doesn’t celebrate Xmas? Is it once again another one of those crazy American with us or against us cultural rubbish? First Halloween, turkey and now Xmas tree. What the flip is all this man? So bloody freshie, honestly.
I don’t see Jews/Hindus/Atheists/Buddists/anti industrialism/capitalism/consumerism/socialist hippies or ‘I just can’t be bothered’ White people being asked and asked to justify why they don’t celebrate Xmas (But then again Britain is quite a cool place to live anyway). So why should Muslims be made to feel crap about why they don’t particiapte in a consumerist feast? Why do they even have to answer and act all apologetic? Maybe in religious countries like America you’d be regarded as a second class citizen for not putting a Xmas tree up but I’d like to hope and believe that the rest of Western world is beyond this crap. The people there can enjoy their holidays however they like.

Jeez, so typical of us to take out someone’s comment out of context and just run with it. No where did he say that Muslims can only be happy only 2 days out of 365 days. I think he very respectfully tried to say why he doesn’t or wouldn’t celebrate or put up a tree. No where did he say that people who do are kafir or they shouldn’t do it.

I wouldn’t, and we never have. I guess you could do it for fun but Jews have lived in the West for hundreds of years and they usually don’t probably because of the religious sentiment. Halloween and Thanksgiving are just cultural.
