I’m kinda replicating thread by TLK in VIG. And since you need 10k posts to post there, I think this should be an interesting discussion here.
So, I guess the question is do we really hate each other if we take out the politics form the picture?
After all, we probably have lot more in common than our differences.
Btw, I remember when I was in school, most Indians and Pakistanis in the US used to hang out together, go to desi places to eat & watch cricket, etc.

No. Besides dirty politics, there's absolutely no reason to hate each other. It's sad we have to show our patriotism by hating another country.

well all i know is that when i was feeling the most crappiest b/c of a major event that happened in my life, the pakistanis and burmese people around me were the sweetest. is it because of the intense indo-pak rivalry/violent history that the people to people relationships are intensely caring? I just feel like that, b/c of the conflicts, mistrust and hate in terms of south asian politics, I try and they try harder to be extra caring and sweet with each other. let's just say that i feel the total opposite of hate with one particular friend of mine :-D.

our political leaders are smart, for every failure of their governance they point fingers on each others country and all blame is on us that we generally fall for it.

i have to admit pakistani side are far more receptive of indians then indians to pakistan(you can think this site as best example),main reason indians have huge misconception about pakistan unlike bollywood presence in pakistan, majority of indians have no idea about pakistan society no pakistani channels or any news reports. except some terrorist attacks ,entire pakistan is like FATA/afghanistan( i have no problem with afghans,again another misconception) for majority of indians

Its interesting that at one time pakistanis and indians lived together. And now after the split we see some what of a clash between two cultures which in my opinion is quite similar. But if these similarities were visible we wouldn't be hatred for one another. Once we understand that we are not very different from one another then I think there may be better relations between the two nations.

In case of Pakistanis and Indians religion is not the cause of hatred it is politics of how the sub continent was divided and let to bleed forever. Muslims and Hindus and Sikhs are living peacefully in many parts of India and Pakistan is proof of what I am saying.
In some cases people do use religion to hate each other , some hate religion and some hate others for lack of it.

babloo well said!! this is wht ive observed, indian living back home have far more less tolerance for Pakistanis, they have no idea, wht is an average pakistani ... all they get is wht their news channels tell them! whereas, indian living abroad are more open minded and tolerant and can get along very well.
i dont think indians would let pakistanis freely express their views on their forums, like many indians do here on GS
and ive got no hatred for indians, but yes whn they hate Pakistan for no reason, it just pisses me off :(

everyone know what is right and what is wrong. most people/countries are driven on the principle of self interest, and that leads them to decide most beneficial path (either wrong or good) but that doesnt mean you to close eyes and support each and every decision made by authorities.

That is far from the truth! People's definition of right and wrong comes from their parents, religion, culture, and other social institutions. And people DO support the wrong doers all the time!
