So essentially by labeling Hindus as kafir you are saying that they have rejected faith ergo Islam is the only true faith/religion and Hinduism is not.
Don't you think this contradicts your earlier statement about acceptance of other religions ?
Acceptance is not the same as belief. Hindus accept Islam, but do not believe in it. From what I am hearing, Muslims do not even accept Hinduism as a religion since they consider Islam as the only religion.

Wrong.
Muslims accept all religions. We do not agree with them and we may not see eye to eye with them but we sure as hell tolerate them. Sure enough some people don't but bigots have no single religion of their own, they come from all over the place. Examples to the acceptance of other faiths include the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) practiced friendly diplomacy with the Monotheists and Polytheists in that region.
But Quran labels all non-Muslims as Kafirs and I guess as a Muslim you must be following the Quran...
No, it uses different terms for different groups among non-muslims as well as among muslims. In Quran the opposite to Kafir is Momin, not Muslim. We might call someone kafir judging his actions or outwardness but it also says in Quran that only God knows the inward state of a person.
I don't understand why all these non-muslims come to these Islamic based threads and starts to ask "why" and "how" questions, because clearly it is not for the purpose of knowledge, but to criticize.
We believe that our religion is the true religion and we do believe that Christianity and Judism was a true religion because we believe in their prophets. We don't believe in Hinduism but that doesn't mean we disrespect them. It is what it is, don't like it? then keep it to your self. Maybe Sharukh and Salman can give you a better answer
ouch so i'm not even supposed to get anything clarified or understand the interpretations of verses here or whether certain things are personal choice or how it really is in islam. i did not mean any offense. i'm just trying to see if my understanding is wrong or somehow the quran really means it in the way that some muslims see it as being ok. which interpretation is right? if you could post the specific quranic verses or look at the link that barbie has posted it would help me a bit. so what is the religion/scripture section for then, i personally was not criticizing

for those who woship images, statues and multiple gods are called mushrikeen in Quran.....i'm not sure what hindus really believe or worship so i can't comment any further.

Mushrikeen *i.e. those who commit *shirk *(sin) by indulging in idol worship or polytheism ? But a *mushrikeen *can also be a *kafir and vice versa.
Irrespective of what they are called, can you show me where Islam teaches Muslims to accept and respect them ?

I'm pretty sure I answered your confusion up above. Let me repeat a verse from the Quran which pretty much tells us to live and let live and respect other faiths.
Surah 109 and Verse 6 says 'To you be your religion, and to me my religion'
Again, if you want to talk about how people aren't following Islam properly and its supposed tolerance, I'll ask you to look at every religion. Bigots are everywhere. There are plenty of Muslims living in peace and harmony.
saying "merry Christmas", "happy Diwali", "happy Hanakah" to promote peace and harmony, integrating into the larger society, islamically allowed or not?
depending on which interpretation I go by, the answer is different
I usually say someting generic like 'happy holidays'. I personally don't feel like there is anything unislamic about that, but I don't represent all Muslims.
ok fine, see i’m having a hard time with what the everyday muslim thinks about this issue and what the imams think of this issue, ill just be in a state of limbo b/c the way the two see it isn’t the same.
take a look at the link that barbie has posted, that link sees it the way i’ve been taught islam. why is there such a difference in how you see it and how this imam sees it or the phd i learned it from? is it wrong for me to get a clarification on what is correct and what is not the right understanding of it
jeez... now that you have all this info, what are you gonna do with it? can you tell me one way in which any of how a muslim greets a nonmuslim on their festivals affects your life ever?
I never had any qualms about wishing non-Muslims. In the future though I might use a more generic term like sarab, just for prudence. There's a thin line between wishing and giving/accepting gifts and being an actual part of the religious festival.

why is it really any of your concern why i started this thread? i wish i didn't with all the nonmuslims coming in just to criticize without really a desire to learn.
you're like in my business all the time, i don't get it, does me learning about and trying to understand the real islam somehow bother you? and just b/c i did learn a lot about it, am i supposed to convert immediately without asking for clarifications and certainty? is that how it works? what in the world in this section of the forum for anyways then. i wish you would seriously leave me alone. i guess the rule is stick to the religions you were born in and dont' bother trying to understand other ones

If we didn't "accept" and "respect" you don't you think we would have done something about it by now? There are 1.9(I think) billion Muslims in the world and that population is rapidly growing everyday because Islam fastest growing religion in the world. If we really didn't respect or accept other religions wouldn't we be having wars in the name of "jihad" and blow you all away?
Just to answer your question, we believed in christianity and judism but we believe that they have changed their religion from what it originally was. We don't accept Hinduism because that would mean that we accept worshipping your God(s) but that doesn't mean we don't respect you to have your own religion and beliefs.

give me a break.. this is your usual pattern - ask something super-naive that you already know the answer to, and then grind on away about how the answers don't satisfy your secular agenda. your storyline changes every week - sometimes you go with the "i almost converted but then this one thing bothered me", and at other times you play the "oh i don't know anything about islam, can you tell me what this means". none of your questions strike me as educational or arising out of anything you encounter in your life. anytime someone questions your motives, you get all super-defensive. sorry i don't buy your im so a naive bunny drama.

i've never said that i don't know anything about islam, where have i said that? i've always said that i've studied it, i'm learning it still and trying to understand it, why would my questions be educational, especially online, i already have been studying the religion offline with somebody but these tiny issues do pop up in my mind and are ones that did bother me before but looking at my past threads and even this one, they are tiny issues that i kind of made mountains out of in my mind.
whatever difficult issues i'm dealing with in my life are none of your business and yet you keep assuming stuff about me. whether i revert or not is also only my own business.
