Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

it included all pakhtuns areas of N.W.F.P , tribal areas , pashtun balochistan and mianwali and attock

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

I favour creating one called pakhtunistan incorporating the NWFP and the tribal areas.

Redrawing existing provincial boundaries is too dangerous a precedent. Especially with the troubles in Balochistan, taking land away from Balochistan would do nothing but infuriate the nationalist movement even further.

None the less, the NWFP should be renamed Pakhtunistan, and incorporate the tribal areas. All special status of the tribal areas should be removed at this point and the region treated as equal to and the same as the rest of Pakhtunistan.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Why are the pukhtuns so obssessed with having their own state, province is just the start. Can't we leave things as they are? I'm a pukhtun myself, but I fail to see why many pathans would rather call themselves pukhtuns than pakistanis? Why do you guys not feel a part of Pakistan?

Moreover, there was another question that got me wondering, pukhtuns say that they are often asked if they are Muslims first or Pukhtuns? The reply often is Pukhtun. I know that pukhtunwali doesn't conflict much with Islam, but its not perfect and its not a religion. Why would someone put culture/heritage before Islam?

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

:confused:so you mean sindhi and panjabi and kashmiri and balochi are not part of pakistan because they have a region named after their ethnies???

damn…i did not know pakistni were only mohajir descents and NWFP inhabitants:D

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

no, you afgans just want to steal our land.

but i do favour punjab breaking up into 3, sindh into 2 and balochistan should break up makran.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

No, I don't

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

I’ve been thinking long and hard about different ethnicities in Pak and the official proposed pan-Pakistani culture and now that I think of it what you and others like you ask for is nothing unreasonable, it is a basic human right, everyone deserves a home, everyone should have the right to speak his own tongue and not see it have an inferior status to somebody else’s language, everyone should have the right to his thousands of year old identity and shouldn’t have a foreign identity imposed on them which they don’t feel comfortable or at home with.

All Pashtun regions Attock, Mianwali, NWFP, FATA, North Balochistan, Western Northern Areas should be united under one province called Pashtunistan.

An ideal Pakistan would be a multicultural Pakistan where provinces are divided on ethnic lines and every province has it’s own language as a national language, medium of instruction in schools, language of media and communication and a co-liturgical language with Arabic, other languages of the state should be offered as a optional subject in school for those who want to learn about the culture and heritage of their fellow countrymen. A separate Urdu province (Karachi) should be made for Urdu, and all national-languages/ethnic-identities (Pashto, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi) should have an equal status. English should remain the official language (necessary in this day and age) and made a language of inter-provincial communication instead of Urdu because it’s more neutral (in the region as the whole world has to learn it) and more practical and useful.

I love Pakistan and I always say Pakistan should remain united with one centre (markaz), one leader, one army, one currency……. We are one nation despite being multi-ethnic because our religion/ideology Islam is one, but Islam doesn’t tell us to destroy our ethnicities because ethnicity is Allaah’s creation rather it teaches that different ethnicities are equal and ought to live in harmony and brotherhood with mutual respect and learn from each other and appreciate the aesthetics of each others cultures instead of despising or considering each other inferior.

I don’t think Pashtuns want to separate from Pak, we just want the right to preserve our identity, if we were granted this right it would only strengthen Pakistan, Urdu is only the language and cultural legacy of some Pakistanis (not all) and Urdu speakers (and Urdu speaker wannabes) shouldn’t be imperialistic and impose it on others because that is just plain racist, bigoted and uncourteous, don’t get me wrong Urdu is a beautiful language and I respect it’s people but it is not mine and I shouldn’t have to learn it if I don’t wish to nor should I have to consider it a part of my identity.

We talk of Aazaadi on 14th August but what sort of freedom is it when we are being denied the heritage of our fathers in our own homeland? We are having somebody else’s culture imposed on us, are we being unreasinable for wanting to preserve our identity in our own land or are those who want to destroy our identity and impose theirs on us being racist?

I’m not saying Pashtuns are better than any other people or Pashto superior to Urdu or Punjabi but it’s my own and just as you have a right to identify with your language/ethnicity and not have Pashto imposed on you we have a right to our identity and not have Urdu imposed on us.

We’re not being racist, we don’t consider anyone inferior to us or ourselves superior to anyone we just don’t want nobody else to treat us or our language/culture as inferior in our own land, I know many of us say racist things but that is due to frustration, we are a courageous people but we are humble and courteous at the same time and we get frustrated when people take advantage of our latter two traits.

Pakistan should remain united but accept that it’s multi-cultural, there is no one Pakistani culture but we are a nation because of common religion alone.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

They should take the Pashtun portions of Baluchistan and NWFP and form the region.. That'll silence everyone

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

nice post, long elaborated…and i fully agree :k:

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

What i feel is to send back 3 million Afghans back to afghanistan, they have stolen enough of our electricity, sold enough arms and drugs in Pakistan. Time to go home baby.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Mom associates herself with both Pak/NWFP and Afghanistan but she does not care to have a Pukhtunistan and neither do I.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Forget about this BS about Pakhtunistan. Pashtuns are Pakistanis, Bottom line. If the argument is made that there is a province named after punjabis and sindhis, then mind you when people think about NWFP the first thing that comes to their mind are Pashtuns. So, we should stop trying to break Pakistan into smaller pieces and unite against our enemies.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Mister khan, where did anyone say we want to divide pakistan into smaller pieces? Its just a discussion about rejoining some of the Reviously NWFP belonging areas back to NWFP. And what exactly is the big deal if the name gets changed from nwfp to Pakhtunistan? No one is breaking Pakistan up.

Tell me. Why should a Pakhtoon be made to call himself a Punjabi?? I am from Attock, and I know I am not Punjabi. So why is Attock a part of Punjab? Its not about us feeling superior or someone else being superior. If you are a Punjabi and they all of a sudden decide to make ur district a part of Sindh and from now on ur labelled a Sindhi, would that make you a Sindhi? NO! Would you like being called a Sindhi? Maybe not! and its not cos you are superior to a Sindhi, its cos ur a Punjabi, why would u wana be called a Sindhi?? or vice versa.

Take your complexes about being inferior/superior elsewhere. We are all Pakistanis but we all have our own culture and heritage and yes we would prefer to stay that way.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

why is this thread in General? :hoonh: It should be in Pakistan Affairs :snooty:

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

As far as Attock is concerned, I could careless what province its a part of. It doesn't matter; if Peshawar (my home city) was a part of Punjab (for example) I would lose no sleep over it.

Secondly, the issue about superiority and inferiority is stupid. What is their for us pashtuns to feel superior about? We have such a negative impression amongst the other Pakistanis that they consider us inferior to them. They think all we're good for is being taxi drivers, or chawkeedars. Further, we're often called londaybaaz, ackrots, and stupid. Im not saying all these stereotypes are right but thats the impression we have amongst our fellow Pakistanis. So the point is there is nothing to feel superior about.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Anila Khan, where is this coming from? I've never seen pukhtuns being looked down at!

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

^ yeah.... in fact a lot of pk desis i know here add a "khan" behind their names so that they will be more respected! (even tho they are not pathans)
i was born in attock and our whole family orginated from there..... honestly we cant careless abt wateva division pukhtunistan is gonna be, our identity is something we retain within ourselves. regional changes doesnt change a man.

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Choco do a search on paklinks ..you'll get *some * very colourful words about pathans....in the end the guy who posted this seems to misunderstand the core issue ..the core issue is not what people with no practical link to "Sarhad" think ..it is what the peoples elected representatives think..and through them the people of the province have asked almost unanimously that the province be renamed, however the act of renaming resides with the federal government ..which would barely take one session and one single vote to address..as they have done even faster in renaming Campellpur and Lyallpur...so its not a big deal..but because nobody in Islamabads ruling class cares what the people think in "sarhad"..don't expect anyone to listen..as for the whole Mianwali and Attock case is concerned I feel for those people cut off ..the NWFP provincial government has tried a dozen time over to get FATA merged with the province..if they can't achieve that..what chance do they have of doing so for parts of Attock and Mianwali?

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Well, I didn't know that NWFP's provincial government wasn't taken all that seriously. It's sad indeed to learn that we are having a hard time to be heard! How do you then expect those anticipating a Pukhtunistan Province not to feel distant and bitterness toward the authorities. Afterall they've been wanting it for a long time ...

Re: Do you favour a province newly named pakhtunistan and..

Just to get my facts right and have more of a knowledge on this issue, can you guys provide me a link. I've tried to google, but the stuff that I came up with was old and irrelevant.
