I don’t get the hype. I think i’ve ate it once in my life when I was a kid, wasn’t my thing. I know there’s alot of asians even western born who prefer to eat nothing but that with roti. I’m the only person I know who doesn’t eat it or like it, even the whities I know love it. Maybe i’m not from earth..
10 people killed in a year…that’s not their main diet. a Desi can’t survive without eating saalan just like sea creatures can’t survive without eating sea food.
I cant forget that one time, I was on training trip in Geneva and couldnt find a halal curry shop for a week. That strongest craving ever for curry , totally killed me !
^Yikes, I much prefer the texture of roti and curry to that of rice and curry.
OP, I loves me some curries/masala/gravy…whatever you wanna call it. I loves it so much that I often omit the meat and eat only the curry. Qorma–I leave behind the meat and only eat the curry. Nihari…yup, I do the same thing. Heck, I also do that with chicken karahi. My mom dreads it whenever I approach the handi with the doyi because she knows the adroitness with which I maneuver around the meat and scooping out the maximum amount of curry for myself leaving behind sookhi botiyan for everyone else. It has come from years of experience. There should be a title and award for this disorder or crime…or as I like to see it… talent. I will wake up in the middle of the night and grab me a bagel and spread a layer of cream cheese on it and then top it of with my the curry from me mum’s chicken karahi. The professional bagel aficionados have yet to discover this delicious and lucrative combination. Sentry, you would probably either sit very very far away from me and my curry breath at the dining table…or…you’d sit near me…depending on my penchant in the hopes that it would result in you having less curry to contend with as it would all be in my plate. Yup, I am a curry creep and so proud of it. :shoaby:
I can’t stand the texture of roti, it tastes like cardboard to me. My mum used to force me to eat it when we were kids, now I haven’t eaten it since I got married. Now parathas r a different story, I really lie them.
As for Salan, I have it about once a week with rice, naan or toast
Roti’s got more taste than white rice IMO. And so much more texture variety with roti than with rice. Parathas, sheer maal, chapati, roomali, etc etc. Crispy, crunchy, toasty, soft and doughy, buttery, topped with onion seeds or or sesame seeds, stuffed rotis, etc. I know it’s a subjective matter, but rice just isn’t as diverse.
@Sentry I’ve tried it and it’s not my thing either. To be completely honest, the main reason for this is that I abhor the smell and taste of garam masala. Dishes that don’t have it are alright but I wouldn’t eat it everyday either.
