Mostly asking from western perspective: with common law increasingly common, how often you see a lady describing herself or being described as Mrs flana? I haven’t seen any such instances.

never met a guy by the name flana, so my answer would be never.

Dont tell me you don't know anything about flan? Flana is the formal name of flan.
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
Falana is formal like Mr.?:D
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
I never introduce myself as Mrs. But i've been called mrs by many people .. never people I know personally. I don't mind ... I kind of like it actually :)

and I always thought that falana is the sister of dhikana
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
I address one of our members as Mrs. Khan
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
Personally I would not. I have a last name and I don't intend on changing it for anyone. Plus its such a hassle changing it formally. What happens if you get a divorce? more hassle.... I rather keep my own name. Of course any children will take fathers last name.
As for simply being referred to Mrs XYZ in conversation - thats OK - not formally though.

how cynical...yeh bhi toh ho sakta hai u never get a divorce
but i get what ur saying
informally i wud actually prefer to be called that but formally it is definitely a hassle since all ur degrees and documents are in ur maiden name it's just too much to go through unless u really really really wanted to do it.
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
it depends on tha name of huband if husband's name is like Ahsan or Shakeel or Ali its ok to be called by MRs. Ali or Mrs. Ahsan. But if husband name is sharbat khan, touta singh no one would like to be called by Mrs. Touta or Mrs. Sharbat
kaisa hu na main intellectual
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
Still happens at wedding receptions, for instance. The MC introduces the couple as Mr. and Mrs. Flan Flana. They don't even take the bride's first name. My sis was very particular about that not happening at hers.
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
@ llxxll and ninja hattori … lol Yeah, you could say I’m being cynical - I prefer to think of it as being practical ![]()
Of course - no one wants to end up divorced - but I just rather not - does not matter if I was head over heels in love with him - just a personal preference.
Plus, Islamically women have the right to not take up hubbys last name (adds to my reasons..:D)
But informally people tend to refer you as Mrs hubbys last name and is probably a cultural habit you could say - which I don’t have a problem with.
But yeah part of it due to the fact all your documentation is in your original name and changing it may have implications when you apply for jobs etc - its not *that *much of a big deal but still is a hassle esp. in Australia.

^ I fee the exact same way! My mother never changed her last name legally either.
Changing ALL documents (especially professional degrees) is a hassle. And as mentioned, in the case of divorce, changing it all back just adds to the mess. (Everyone thinks they'll stay married forever but unfortunately, that's not reality. I would love to stay married until one of us dies....but there's no guarantee that 10 years from now, I will not go through a divorce).
I do get referred as Mrs. at some social events and it does not bother me. But I don't plan on ever changing my name legally.

Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
I haven't change my surname because of official difficulties, but I don't mind being called Mrs Nehru:)
Re: Do women still like to be called Mrs so and so?
