It's your day and it comes only once in your life inshAllah - wear whatever your heart desires in my opinion. Yes - red is traditional but if you don't feel like wearing it - then don't. I actually havn't gone to a wedding in a while where the bride has worn a shade of red!!! I have seen coral, orange, white/cream, lilac, light pink, and dark green for baraat days!!
With your wedding dress - i think its important for a person to wear something they are truly excited about - in a style that compliments their body the best (it might not necessarily be the latest fashion) .... and in a shade of color that compliments their skin tone AND personality the best. :D
I think both of your choices are to die for ... especially in the colors that you are thinking about getting.

lol - I think I personally will go for a red tone myself for the baraat. I think the color really suits me. I want my dress and overall look to be very very traditional on that day.
Then for my walima i want to go for the extreme opposite and have a very modern look. The colors of light turquoise, cream, and biscuit are really appealing to me............
If I have a separate nikkah - then I have decided that I will wear my mom's baraat gharara .. which was a light pink :D

That sounds absolutely devine!!! I am going to use a similar concept, my barat will be very traditional (minus the red), and my waleema is going to be really modern with a lot of romantic house mixes, a HUGE dress, etc.
I love House, romantic house sounds even better! Do share some songs!
I posted this on another thread. I will send you some videos as well when I get home.

My older sister wore lilac on the wedding day and it was beautiful! It really suited her skin tone and she looked fab!
I personally would prbably wear some sort of red on the wedding and mabye a pink, light blue or peach on the walima
If you don’t…then the “Must-Wear-Red” police will hunt you down and club you until you’re…RED. Or worse…they’ll declare your marriage invalid. :nono:
^I’m kidding. Wear whatever color you want, DB. This is your special day…so don’t settle…especially not for the major things like the bridal clothes.
These days…there are SOOOOOOOO many options and varieties. You can do red and another color. Or skip red altogether…and go for a color of your choice. Red is traditional…but you’ll even find bridal outfits that are a fusion of eastern and western styles. There are no hard and fast rules. And rules are meant to be broken…hence the variety you see today Play around with your options and have fun.
Thanks DB for the songs, I’m gonna download 'em real soon. Oh and there’s a shade of red that suits everyone! I personally will go w/ a deep maroon-red as opposed to a bright blue-toned red. I find that more regal and traditional.
I think wearing different colors on a baraat can make the look look outdated as opposed to wearing a shade of the red along w/ a traditional cut. I’m sticking to red because I love it and DB, I love your idea of a turquoise w/ pale colors. I was planning on that too since I LOVE turquoise. Especially the more jade-green kinda turquoise. I really think it's personal preference. I'm getting married next summer and going to wear white...AND NO white isn't only for fair skin/goray people lol
It depends if you want to keep it traditional or a bit more modern. Goodluck picking an outfit!
I actually think white looks much much better on people with deeper skin tones. I’m fine with most colours but I feel white washes me out which is a shame as I’d love to wear white on my nikkah or my engagement.
i've seen brides wearing white, cream, gold, pinks and purples on the baraat day. dont worry about the whole 'its traditional to wear red'. wear whatever makes YOU happy :)
On my baraat I'm definately wearing red. I want classic color choices/style so the pics will be timeless and won't look "dated".
Also, I would never wear a heavy red lehenga to someone else's wedding....so in my opinion, my own wedding is the only time I can wear a heavy red lehenga without feeling like I look retarded.
As for the other colors, I'm open to choosing something non-traditional for other events (nikah, walima etc).
I absolutly agree with Syra and Punjabirose. Go for a color that excites you and that suites your skin tone! As long as youre happy thats what really matter be it red, purple, blue or even black (though hardly anyone could pull of a black bridal, though I'd love to see if anyone has proof of it).
Everyone has a personal preference and theyre going to tell you theirs, but think of yourself ...which color will you be most comfortable in ..or rather which color will you feel the most beautiful in? Thats your color.
Depends really if it was red, it'd have to be elegant enough.. but wear whats suits you, personally Id go for a traditional look on the wedding it may have some red in it, not sure yet...
Go for what looks good on you DB! Your colour choices are gorgeous! I am going for a red lehnga with an emerald green shirt and border, with gold kaam. Red has always been the colour i knew i wanted to wear because its traditional and suits me! My valima dress is white one at the bottom with silver work.
My cousin did a GORGEOUSS creme coloured dress for her baraat, it had a boustier top with lehnga and then a maroon and mint green gharara combo on her valima. Both looked absolutely stunning. Here are pictures!
My valima outfit..
My cousins outfits..please don’t quote though. Im going to remove them after. but the pictures don’t look as good as they did in person.
I think Pakistanis rely too much on Indian culture. Red is traditionally an Indian/Hindu colour to wear for weddings, and Pakistanis just picked it up and now call it their own tradition. I have chosen my wedding lengha, and its not going to be red, just because that is my personal preference. Im going to wear pink. But Im also lucky because my mom hates red (her own wedding lengha was shocking pink), so I didnt have any pressure from her to choose a red lengha.
Enough of "pakstanis stole this from India/Hinduism". Sheesh. We were one country, our desi traditions are a mix of Muslim/Hindu traditions. Hindus complain they are influenced by Muslims and Muslims complain we take from the Hindus. We should all realize we are the same culture.
