Do we have to wear red?

Red has been the traditonal barat color for ages! But do we really have to wear some shade of red on the barat day? I really wanna go with a shade of turquoise on the barat, and pink on the waleema. What colors are you guys going with?

A friend wore peach on her Baraat....Purple/maroon (Marchanda or something) on her Walima...

I always liked red for Baraat....But is also nice to see other colours on Baraat like Beige, Pink, Rusty etc....

I just dont like red, and personally I dont think it looks all that special on anyway. But that's just my opinion.

Do you think it will look weird if I wear turquiose on the barat and peach on the Waleema?

Why should it look weird?? It's your day, your choice......

Maybe wearing red on the baraat is just a mindset of desi people....

So someone has to break the chain....

Hun, wear whatever colour you want! It's your special day! I've seen brides wear red on their Baraat even though the colour doesn't suit them. It's best to go for a colour that suits your complexion and doesn't make you look washed out. Turquoise on the baraat day sounds great and unique, go for it! :)

This for the barat.

I was previously trying to decide if I wanted the one above in that pale green color or a rich burgundy…

I’m considering this for the waleema in a nice peachy pink.

I know everyone has their own say but I can't imagine getting married in anything but a lengha in a shade of the reds. And of course a specific red won't suit your skintone but there's a red for every complexion.

And red looks regal and traditional (which is the look I'm going for). You have the valima to look all contemporary and whatnot.

Really?! Haye, have you seen some of the amazing Bunto joras in maroon w/ silver kaam on it? It's to DIE for! I'm gonna dig up the picture for you but I really think red/ruby/maroon are timeless! So your daughter could wear it on her baraat if she wanted.

If you’re still considering something in the red family there’s a shade of red that suits everyone, you just need to find it. Do you think you’d suit deeper reds? maroons? brighter reds? orangey reds?

Thanks Syra. I will mostly likely go with a pale green, but I dont mind taking one last look at red. I like rich and dark shades or red like red wine, or burgundy.

As for red, you don't have to wear anything that you don't want to....stick with what you love. You want to feel like a million bucks on your big day so if you force yourself to wear a color that you didn't want, you probably won't feel your best!

Red is just traditional because it's what all South Asians wear due to the similarity in their culture.
