weak arguments Mr Lajo, very weak. You can come up with excuses why its ok to be around alcohol when it suits you....so why does it NOT suit you to be around it when the goal is to further good relations between you and your alcohol-consuming christian (or other religion) colleagues? This isnt as important? As getting from one place to another in an airport? Or you're saying that you'd give in and have a brew because you're weak and just cant help yourself in a social setting? Come on. Live in the real world here man. People will do what they do, that doesnt mean you have to follow and it doesnt mean that your beleifs are betrayed by being around those who beleive differently.

No way would I go to a bar or club. But I dont see what's wrong with going to a dinner in a nice restaurant. If others are giong to drink, that's their business not mine. Their religion doesnt prohibit it (and even if it does, its their choice to drink, and i have no say in it), mine does and I don't mind.
Funny this should come up, we were having a small party in class yesterday. Several peopel brought in wine and everybody had several glasses, including this Egyptian (i think Muslim) woman, who was the one to bring most of the wine. Me and this one other Pakistani girl were the only ones who dint hav any wine. There was no problem, no pressuring etc. I guess some people would say I shudn't be going to college since parties are held where alcohol is served :p

Moving on..
People need to understand the difference between these places first, a pub is not a club..pr vice versa.
Very few ppl go to 'clubs' to geta drink after work. mostly its local pubs, sports bars, etc.
go get yerself a coke or an iced tea, chill. play some pool, darts, shuffle board..whetever they got going there, enjoy each other's company and go on your merry way.
or watch a hockey game, :D

That makes perfect sense.
I have yet to actually eat with someone who does drink alcohol.
Going to a restaurant with friends/coworkers where alcohol MAY be served is different than going to a bar where everyone is drinking.

And as far as planes and trains are concerned, that is beyond your control, so you can't help it...And you are not really eating and drinking with those people...
Your original post which I highlighted said you "You cannot go to a place where alcohol is served let alone have dinner or socialize while others are drinking..."
Surely you know that they would serve alcohol in planes (bar a few airlines) and trains, therefore you should not go there and avoid them. Do you?

Its o.k. to participate in the festive activities of the Christmas season with your friends and collegues, while obeying your muslim commands of avoiding alcohol, pork, sex etc. It is a matter of common courtesy and decency that you show your good muslim spirit of harmony and goodwill. If you seriously think that it is wrong to even go to these gatherings then you should reavaluate your whole life style and move back home. Don't be a hypocrite and play a game of pick'n choose to suit your righteous life style.

ok hmmmm which one is that??? I went on PIA with a nice bottle of wine. Because I have such a fear of flying, i sat there and consumed, the air hostesses gladly brought me a nice glass and ice as I needed it. So even the airlines that do not SERVE alcohol do not prohibit it. So what do you do? Stay home?

How are you going to make sure about some Pilot (may be infidel) who is in the cockpit sipping wine or vodka that he satisfies your standards or requirements?

This is just really silly. We're living in a global world now. Its a small place with many different cultures, religions, practices and beleifs. If you cant "live and let live" then you should just crawl under a rock or something. When we can all accept differences and be able to be in the same room with all our differences and without killing each other, well THEN there will be peace on earth.

Islam is lot more than about dilemma's about drinking alcohol. Give Islam due repect which it deserves by being the faith of one and a half billion people on this planet and by its teachings of compassion, respect, harmony for fellow human beings and especially for women.
