Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

But Goat is GOAT and NOT lamb. Lamb is young or baby sheep. Goat is a GOAT!!!

Big Sheep = Mutton
Young Sheep = Lamb

Goat = GOAT!!! Unless its also called mutton?

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

I have seen 'halal' written on packets of pork here in Hong Kong!

I have heard of that happening in some places here too.

A bit confused. Does the mosque say u can eat non-zabiyah meat after offering a prayer, or zabiyah meat after offering a prayer.

And also, is zabiya meat something like kosher meat? There's are kosher cafe's in Hatton Gardens (London Jewish area) and they had salt-beef sandwiches, i pondered if we r allowed to eat them, but didn't just in case. I have heard we can eat kosher if halal is not available.

OMG! Maybe its the fake stuff?

Yeah I knw but the taste of Goat or lamb is almost the same

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

^ U might b rite, i had goat biryani and i couldn't really tell it was much different. Apparently goat meat has less cholesterol and is much better for u than other red meat.

Love lamb chops tho!

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

I love chops too, Have you had them tayyabs ?

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

We only eat halaal. Alhamdulillah it is very easy to find halaal meat markets and halaal restaurants here. If there was absolutely nothing in my city or in an nearby city, then I guess I would eat strictly kosher. I wouldnt ever eat at mainstream restaurants or fast food joints. Even when Im in Muslim countries I still find it gross eating at halaal Burger King and whatnot

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

Do muslim countries have non zabiha BK or MacD's?

IslamiCity.com - Q & A

there are several points you should know
and not confuse: these points are: I-What constitutes Halal meat,
II-Place of origin of Halal meat, and III- Method of slaughtering
animals.
I. What Constitutes Halal Meat: Regarding the first issue, please note
that the issue of Halal and Zabiha meat is a matter that Muslim scholars
have divergent opinions about it. Also, please note that Halal meat
means permissible to be eaten according to Islamic Law while Zabiha meat
refers to meat slaughtered by Muslims according to specific guidelines.
The verses from the Qur’an that some Muslim scholars use to prove that
only Islamically Slaughtered meat (Zabiha) is Halal are found in Surah
al-An’aam (6) verses 118 and 121. As to the verse that some Muslim
scholars use to prove that meat from Christians and Jews is Halal to eat
is found in al-Ma’idah (5) verse 5. Having said this, this is our
guidelines to you:
The subject regarding the meats in non-Muslim country and non-Zabiha
meat is very long and elaborate. We will only give here a very brief
explanation. If you need more information in the future, please write
us. Also, Dr. Ahmad Sakr has written several books about this subject,
i.e., not only about meats, but also about other food, food ingredients,
food additives, and preservatives in the West. You can obtain copies of
his publications directly from the Foundation for Islamic Knowledge:
P.O. Box 665, Lombard Illinois 60148. USA. You may also contact the
Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America. To get its address, also
contact the Foundation for Islamic Knowledge. Now, back to your
question, to give you a yes/no answer, I tend to allow Muslims to eat
non-Zabiha meat (beef, lamb, and chicken, ducks, etc.) if they are
living in non-Muslim countries under certain conditions: 1- that you
know that the meat is from People of the Book i.e. they have to be
Christians or Jews. You cannot eat meats of atheists, polytheists,
pagans, Hindus, Buddhists, or any group that does not have a
monotheistic religion. 2- You should mention the name of Allah before or
while eating. 3-If you actually witness the slaughtering of the animal,
by a non-Muslim or a Muslim person, in a way that is not allowed in
Islam, such as killing the animal by strangling him, or that the animal
died before slaughtering him, or the animal fell from an elevated place,
or that he died through a horn fight, and other restrictions described
in Surah al-Ma’idah (5) verse 3, then don’t eat the meat because it
becomes Haram, and 4- If Islamically slaughtered meat is available, you
should select it; and you should consider the meat of the People of the
Book as a last alternative.
II. Place Of Origin of Halal Meat: Since Islam is the fastest growing
religion in the West, the Muslim community living in predominantly
non-Muslim countries have been able to establish their own slaughter
houses. This is found in North and South America, in Australia, in
Europe, and in many other countries. Actually, many Muslim countries
purchase their meats from these countries and are well aware that the
meat is slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines. This is still not a
reason for Muslims not to check the authenticity of the claims of the
foreign slaughter houses. Therefore, if you are among the Muslims who
take the position that Halal meat is only Zabiha meat, it is still not a
reason to condemn all meat coming from non-Muslims countries because in
many times, non-Muslim slaughter houses hire Muslim butchers to
slaughter the animals.
III. Method of slaughtering animals: As to this issue, the fact that
chicken are slaughtered by electric machines and not manually is not a
reason not to make them Zabiha. In Saudi Arabia, where the largest
poultry farms in the world exist, chicken are also slaughtered by
electrical machines and an Allahu Akbar tape is played allowed to deal
with the issue of mass slaughtering which is no longer practical to be
done manually. Therefore, the method itself on its own is not the issue.
We hope this answer satisfies your needs and clarifies the issue in more
details. Thank you for asking and God knows best.

We eat HALAL meat only. And Alhamdolillah, we've got Halal (zabiha) food available everywhere.

However, as an exception, we eat Kosher food when halal is not available. For example, the Kosher hotdogs at bJs , or the Kosher turkey available at Pathmark on Thanksgiving.

I've learnt one more thing from one of my friends. As you know sometimes the restaurants play with the word halal and declare their food halal upon your enquiry, just ask them where they are getting the meat from. Get their number and call them to ask if the meat is Zabiha or no. This process may take few minutes before you can start or the restaurant owners may start making wierd whispering noises and disgruntled face, but its better than eating somethig haram. Again the exception here is, if the restuarant ppl are muslim, you can believe them cuz if they are lying it will be on them.

I've met so many people here in US who came here long ago while there were no such facilities of halal meat stores at long distances. These ppl didnt go for meat at all for timeperiod as long as one year unless they get it from far.
Now, Alhamdolillah, we've so many facilities available almost everywhere. Why go for non-halal food then?

the western chains in muslim countries all offer zabiha/halal meat, don’t think they’ll be allowed a license otherwise. Pakistan’s Mc D, Pizza hut, Subway, KFC all halal, same for Dubai, Malaysia etc. and even Singapore where most chains are halal because of a large Muslim population.

no doubt, it can be very difficult and inconvenient to follow a strictly halal rule while living in the west, i follow it and its tough. at one time we were living in a hick town in illionis where we had to travel 2 hours to either chicago or st.louis to get halal meat supply for a mth. with 3 little kids, planning the trip, keeping stocked was a pain.

now that kids are starting school, what they eat at lunch in school is an issue too, so I pack my son lunch everyday and if we are in a hurry in the morning, then i go especially out to drop it to school. i personally don’t miss eating meat in restaurants as im fond of seafood but it sure would be nice to pick up my meat fresh at the local supermarket and not worry about freezer burns, thawing and running out of stock :bummer:

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

Halal meat all the time. although kosher can be a replacement but I avoid it since I will NOT die of hunger if I dun eat meat.

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

Halal meat only. Alhamdullillah.

Know many Muslims who think it's suffice to say Bismillah and eat whatever.

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

mirch, muje itna labna answer samaj nahi aya...could you plz just tell me that if there is KFC,; and its not halal. and i go there bismillah para aur kalma aur woh halal ho gaya?????

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

Their is a fatwa from al azhar university .. that Chicken can be eaten in any form of slaughtering and i do. Everything else is haram.... goat... cow... if not properly slaughter according to the rules of Zabihya !

Here is the jist of that fatwa I quoted above:

"to give you a yes/no answer, I tend to allow Muslims to eat
non-Zabiha meat (beef, lamb, and chicken, ducks, etc.) if they are
living in non-Muslim countries under certain conditions: 1- that you
know that the meat is from People of the Book i.e. they have to be
Christians or Jews. You cannot eat meats of atheists, polytheists,
pagans, Hindus, Buddhists, or any group that does not have a
monotheistic religion. 2- You should mention the name of Allah before or
while eating. 3-If you actually witness the slaughtering of the animal,
by a non-Muslim or a Muslim person, in a way that is not allowed in
Islam, .........then don't eat the meat because it
becomes Haram, and 4- If Islamically slaughtered meat is available, you
should select it; and you should consider the meat of the People of the
Book as a last alternative.
"

For details go through the fatwa.

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

How do you even know if the 'halal' meat you are eating is in fact 'halal' when dining out and buying from 'halal' shops? You don't. You are putting your trust in the people who claim it is 'halal'.

I, like Shay, can very easily eat just vegi's 2-3 weeks in a row. I usually just get my protein from Tuna or Salmon if I feel like I may be dying.

Re: Do u eat NON-Halal meat?

ok thanks Mirch :)
