I don't know......what if there is a test to ask some basic questions about parenting.......and the person has to score at a certain passing grade......

not a fan of surveys and questionnaires but perhaps it can help...I know adoption agencies do that.

wonder why the adoption agencies do that.....and why is it okay for them to demand that certain standards be met......?

by the same token, I know of some churches will not permit folks to get married there until and unless the engaged couple has taken a six weekend course on marriage......

I think this argument is absurd. Who sets the criteria for who deserves to get married and who doesn't? By the same token, because some people are so evil or wicked should we then question their very existence too? ke some people don't deserve to be born. Lakin who are we? Who appointed us the judge here?

To certify that the potential adopter is capable of raising the child. There is a test for everything else in life like passing the LSATS to become a lawyer, or the practicum to become a teacher, or even having good credit in order to buy a house- being a parent imo surpasses all of that because you'll be raising another human and the agencies want to see if you have what it takes.

Those who marry for wrong reason and ruin two or more lives do not deserve to be married.

Prior to marriage if the reason is

money
looks
fame
escalation of social class
accidental pregnancy
fake love

.....then marriage has a potential to be failed.

Unfortunately it is after the fact one can say these people did not deserve to get married.

There are few arranged marriages where money/prospect of a good life is not an factor. Looks matter too, A LOT for some people.

Besides, how can you determine beforehand if someone’s going to be a good/bad husband or parent?Companionship is one of the very basic instincts of human beings, and to deprive someone of that right…plus what’s the formula here? People take some sort of quiz/test/survey? Who compiles those? How would you know if someone’s telling the truth or not.

Somehow that sounds very absurd to me. Call me judgmental or what ever.

For A Better Life Series (Part 2): Educate Yourself Before Marriage

As-Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

We are hosting our second part of the For a Better Life Series, titled Educate Yourself Before Marriage, on Sunday September 18 at 2:30 pm at Sayeda Khadija Centre. The goal of the program is to have single Muslims educated about different aspects of marriage, meet with each other in an informal setting and discuss issues of common interests. The program will have moderators guiding the discussions and also available to answer any personal questions. Program will feature:

Short presentations on the challenges, the ways and means and resources.
Screening of a short movie related to the topic of the day
Small group discussions moderated by Faith of Life Network team
Light lunch will be served.
