Only asking cos i saw come comments on the recent thread “Some girls…”.
It gives the impression that Punjabi men treat their ladies better than Pathan. I don’t think thats necessarily true. Add your twopence worth here!!!
i know two pathan families, through my own family and husbands, never seen there wives, they do parda 99% of the time, they did't come to my wedding as it wasn't segregated etc. Have to leave the house with a male etc.

Thats really odd. I know many pathans from uk and from pakistan, they have no such hang ups. BTW I know punjabis and pathans here in UK who dont go to weddngs if they r not segregated, i think for religious reasons.
But would u think that its a bad way to treat your wife if she is not allowed to go to non-segregated events, but is allowed out to segregated. I think thats more of religious rather than cultural

i think its true to obey our religion n act accordingly but wen there is question abut Pathans then they r traditional wise conservative n backward nation,,they have their own customs belief or disbelief ect,,,especially in women matter i would like to share one comment from a pathani student,once i met her somewhere n she said our gods live on earth the MEN in form of fathers ,husbands ect..so they r different from others in each n every matter.

Thats certainly the STRANGEST pathan i ever heard of. Do u not think u have generalised somewhat?
I can guarantee u that none of my pathan friends would agree with what u wrote.

I am from Punjab, but I can assure you Pathans are the most hospitable and welcoming people I have ever seen. Whenever we visited someone in Peshawar, a family, they would be amazing hosts, and though the women of the household would not come, sit talk in an all male gathering (they dont have to anyways, nothing wrong with that, infact the men would feel uncomfortable if they did), they just make sure the guests are well taken care of. If we went with my mom and sis, they'd have a separate gathering for the women, which of course is always good too! Both Pathans and Punjabiz treat their women just fine, though they may do some things differently, based on the teeny weeny differences in cultures of these two great provinces.

but than again it depends on everyne...

i think both are far more strict, and i cant really describe it but think their women are made outta steel so really do put burden on them and think its ok to.. carry your own bags, yes u can carry all the grocery by ureself too etc.. i dont know.. not as inclined to being sentimental or courteous.. or maybe it varies from man to man.. but ive seen it more often in both punjabi and pathan men.
and i HATE the tu they use when talkin to their wives even though the other way around, wife uses aap.. or when talkin bout their wife in the 3rd person they would say woh khana paka rahi hai or * woh bahar gayi hai*.. show some respect

I think both pathans and punjabis come in many varieties and forms like any other race so let’s not generalize.
I don’t exactly understand who is considered ‘pathan’ but we used to have a couple Quetta Pashtun neighbors in Pak and they were very modern in many ways. Like the girls would wear jeans and always go out and socialize. I also knew some Afghani pathans who were quite strict with their women, would never even send them to school and harrass other women on streets if they weren’t accompanied by males. Some other Afghani friends’s brothers and fathers that I knew were very respectful to their women and though they would mostly keep them in parda they would allow them to go school and socialise with friends take great care of them and respect other women well too.
Regards to punjabis, my hubby is punjabi and I assure you that he takes GREAT care of me. 
Oh and he calls me ‘aap’ and always so courteus enough to carry most of the grocery bags because he thinks women are delicate.

Are you pointing out to the only pathaans that you hear about and panjabis that you dont.
I dont agree with the fact that pathaans in general threat their ladies worser. Yes life in villages might be stricter but that is the same for villages in panjaab. The difference I have noticed is that pathaans keep their traditional values (and that could be a women's decision too) when they leave their local areas more then panjabis.

Being a pathan i think yes we pathan are strick but to a limit and we have islamic restrictions....and No education is not part of it..we do educate our girls (as iam educated)... And believe me both pathans and punjabis have their pros and cons so u can't discriminate..... there are some things punjabis do better and pathans don't do properly and there are cultural things tat pathans do better and punjabis don't..
P.S ohh believe me pathan people treat their ladies very well.. yes there are some bad apples, which i think even punjabi peeps have ..
