Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

I am 26 weeks pregnant and planning to move back to pakistan permanently when the baby will be almost 2 months old. So i am not sure if i really need to buy a stroller or not? I am planning to take the car seat to pakistan. Apparently strollers are not used alot in pakistan. I have a 4 year old , i had go to pak when he was 2 for a year or so , so i donated his stroller before leaving. Frankly speaking i never felt the need of stroller when i was there except when we went to bhurbun for vaccation. But i am not sure if it will be the same for new born. I have a light weight stroller but that works from 6 months onward and doesnt have carseat installation option.

So to all the people living in pak do u guys need stroller often.
Should i buy a stroller or a baby carrier.

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

I would definitely take the lightweight stroller with me unless you plan to buy it from there. Kids don't go out in Pakistan?? I am sure they do. Its always good to have a stroller, never know when you'll need it. You can just buy from there, why go through the pain of taking it from here.

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

Kids do go out but we dont have alot of elevators there. I was thinking of buying quinny zap stroller as it has car seat option. but then it is a light weight stroller so i dont know if it would be wise to spend 250 dollars on it when i already have one.

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

Oohh good thread. Speaking of car seats, are they needed in Pakistan? Are they common? When I was a kid there, the concept of car seats didn't even exist.

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

its better to be safe then sorry

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

we bought a stroller for our little one but the amount of times we actually got to use it didnt justify the $$ we spent on it. theres not many places you can actually use a stroller as most places are quite congested...so i wouldnt recommend spending a lot on something you may not get a lot of use out of. maybe the lightweight strolled would suit your needs fine

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

I imagine using a stroller just screams "Hey everyone we are from abroad. Please rob us".

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

Can you take a car seat on the plane with u??? I will be going pak inshallah when my baby will be 6-8 weeks

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

^ you can and it is recommended although not required.

some car seats you can strap on to a carrier like this so you don’t have to carry it in your hands throughout the airport and in the waiting lounge. although that is a britax product, you can use it with many other car seat brands, not just britax car seats.

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

all the mums i kno in Pak have strollers, they r useful for trips to the park etc. i am also taking my baby with me to pak at the age of 6 weeks and im taking a pushchair with me, useful for the airport and anywhere else i will go :D

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

Yes people have started using the car seat here in Pak but mostly as a baby carrier:P i dont think a stroller would b of any use here due to the unstable conditions people dont go out on the streets so often they travel by car hoping to reach their destination asap without being robbed..only use of stroller can b at parks or malls..i like what SGC has suggested wish it was available here

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

N if u ever think that u need a stroller u could buy one from here for much less than $250..a stroller from the best store here would cost u no more than pkr16k..

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

Well I used it for my older son when i was in pak. I know somebody whose 15 days old baby died in accident and literally flied out of the windscreen and landed on hood of the car in pak. So i would recommend using it. but for older cars you have to get seat belts installed.
Most of the airlines allow you to use carseats onboard if you have a sepreate seat for the kid (not PIA though). Now i plan on taking his booster seat and the infant carseat too, not because i am going back from abroad but because of safety reasons.
Its also very useful when you are driving alone (especially if you are againsthiring underaged girls as nannys ). You dont have to worry about a 1 year old moving around in the car if they are safely buckled up and as my husband’s job requires alot of travelling from one city to another and my inlaws and parents are in different cities too, it has been very useful for long rides. even though i had to hear alot from ppl that i am a “sehalpasand” mom and i would rather have my kids buckled up in back seat than in my lap (which is hilarious).

I know most of the ppl in pak own strollers but is it worth the money? i would rather pay 350 $ for a good high end car seat rather than for stroller that i would hardly used (i wasted alot on strollers when i had my first baby, i bought a high end travel system and a light weight stroller for commuting )
I already have this umbrella stroller : http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=4058202 but this one doesnt have any options for new born. and i am planning to buy this one http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=3257676
as it has car seat options for new born. So it can be easily used in pak as it is very compact.

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

buy a nursing cover and use it to cover urself. I dont know about ur hometown but from canada its 14 hours of flight and i dont think that any milk would remain good for that length of time

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

Reidi.. it really depends where you live.. my sister lives at the airforce base and for them stroller is a MUST since most of their shopping, parties etc are within the base that has paved and wide roads and foot paths it's just easy to take the kid around in a stroller, such is not the case in our hometown!

car seats.. I have seen a car seat in my firends pics on facebook but I dont know how much are they used out there since I dont know of anyone in my family who uses car seats.. we will be visiting Pakistan in couple of months and we are still debating about whether to take the car seat or not for our then 3 month old son! lets see what happens!

Mizz khan.. you will have to bf or pump to prevent engorgement/leaks.. your best bet would probably be nursing under a nursing cover, shawl etc? we will be travelling from the US (14 hours and/or more with connection) and I will have to bf as well as supplement with formula like we do at home!

ps: I like the quinny stroller!!!

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

gtg, take your car seat hon. its always better to be safe than sorry, no? and a 3 month old is really too wee to be carried on a lap whilst out and about. plus its not like they follow- or even know- the rules of the road in karachi!

Re: Do i need a stroller in Pakistan?

Thanks girls but im not sure i would feel comfortable breatfeeding with a plane full of people... Cant u express and keep the bottles in the fridges???

So do PIA not permit car seats on the plane? We dont have a seat for the baby she will only be6-8 weeks inshallah in hoping they can provide me with a crib/bassinett for the flight
