While I agree with some comments above about how losing weight may make it easier to find a rishta, I think a lot of the times, personality really has a hand too. I know bigger girls who have had rishtey left, right and centre because they're are such amazing people, and i know 'pretty', slim girls with a face like a sour lemon and too many airs who end up being left behind because they are too picky or because they're too miserable/have an attitude/etc etc.
So while people may first look at physical appearances, I think that the sons (rather than the mothers, in some cases) are able to look past if they speak to the girl and find out whether they like her personality too
But looks do matter in marriage and physical attraction is an important part of marriage (especially in the early years).
I know several "chubby" girls who went on a diet + exercise and lost significant weight for marriage purposes. After marriage and kids they all ended up looking like buffaloes...but the husbands are stuck with them
what about fat guys? although i'd think given the norms of discouraging women from physical activity in the name of modesty, there would be more fat girls than boys.

They're not stuck, they're in love and love is blind.
So im 30 and looking to get married for a good few years now spoken to many guys who all say the same thing your fat! if u loose weight we will marry you.. anywho this hasnt really bothered me much up until now when im hitting 31. My so called loved ones are constantly giving me digs about how men want slim women to marry not a fatty yes I get that! ive learnt that over the years..
For reference im 5foot tall and a uk size 14. So I went to a party weekend before last met this girl who is also looking for marriage we got talking she then introduced me to her mum who was there and said to her mum this is so and so she is also finding it hard to find someone decent she replied in punjabi "loose weight first then you may have a chance" I thought I had heard it all before but this really got to me probably due to old age!...
So my question is do bigger girls not get married are uncapable of love :( they say dont look and it will come to you well ive not looked for 2 years now yet nothing..
