The only person who is truly qualified to answer these questions is Delhitolahoretokarachi. And she has disappeared.

So far the consensus is that they don’t really care. They just correct and move on with their life.
Now here is another question. Before 1971, did they call themselves Pakistani? Or did they add, “Pakistani but Bengali”.
I don’t tell people I am from Karachi if they don’t ask, I just say I am Pakistani.
I wonder if there are any Pakistani patriot songs in bangla language from the days gone by.
Re: Do Bangaldeshis get annoyed/overjoyed/nuetral if people ask them if they are Indi
I happen to work with so many Bangladeshi (fob), they are extremely proud of their nationality.
Re: Do Bangaldeshis get annoyed/overjoyed/nuetral if people ask them if they are Indi
On matter of Pakistan I have seen them divided - some are friendly others are hostile.
But during Ramadan they all sit together with Pakistanies wherever they work. I have personally seen this.
Re: Do Bangaldeshis get annoyed/overjoyed/nuetral if people ask them if they are Indi
I’ve been to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Attended my BFF’s wedding there and some are hostile due to the separation and mistreatment of their people, while others are neutral on the topic. My husband is Pakistani and I’m Indian, I noticed some were a bit put off when my hubby told them where he was originally from. I never experienced this though, I think it’s because of history but the youth doesn’t seem to care as much. I think it’s not a big deal for most Bangladeshis to be called Indian. I was asked about India many times while in Dhaka and they were genuinely eager to visit.
Re: Do Bangaldeshis get annoyed/overjoyed/nuetral if people ask them if they are Indi
Hmmm.. my living outside of Pakistan for the past 19 years perspective, we are Pakistani first. If I meet someone who is from Pakistan, I don’t care where in Pakistan they are from. I know Indians socially divide themselves along the lines of North vs South, I saw this with ABCD Indians in college. For a lot of Pakistanis, being Pakistani is enough.
Now that is not to say I get along with alll Pakistanis. Sometimes you meet another Pakistani and if he is very into his own kind, then it becomes difficult to relate. For example, certain types of Memons for whom their entire surrounding is Memon. Their whole family lives on the same street, they speak a different language, the all work in the same family business, and don’t usually marry outside. If you talk about back home, then they only know about their one particular area of Karachi since their whole life revolved around that. In that case, they might as well be Chinese.
Re: Do Bangaldeshis get annoyed/overjoyed/nuetral if people ask them if they are Indi
Well she is rightly getting exasperated when people dismiss her identity even after she corrects them. If someone mistakenly calls her Indian i don’t think she would get that offended.
It’s just one view though. I’m sure both sides exist. She doesn’t say she is offended because she believes Indians are less good looking or something.
Personally, i don’t get the big deal if some one calls me Pakistani. I just correct them. I don’t see any reason to get offended. Indians are still humans you know. It’s not like being compared her to a subhuman.
Re: Do Bangaldeshis get annoyed/overjoyed/nuetral if people ask them if they are Indi
That’s cool. Interesting to know. I don’t understand Indians who divide north-south and discriminate. It just seems like a way to make yourself feel good by putting another down. I find Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are more connected to back home than Indians are. I think that’s nice. I feel like you guys know much more about your culture and background than Indians abroad do.
I mean do you find some similarity when you meet someone who is Urdu speaking but from India for example? Or if you’re punjabi and you meet an Indian Punjabi?
