then there’s the whole discussion of whether “i divorce you” written three times counts as one divorce pronouncement (which is revocable) or three separate pronouncements (i.e. if three pronouncements are made at one and the same time)… see

^^ In the case of varied opinions, according to Hadith, you consult the closest and and wisest scholar in your vicinity and ask his advice...He will, if the necessity should arise, consult with others too, and whatever that scholar tells meeni, it will become binding upon meeni...

^ not sure she is restricted to the "closest" scholar... but, yes, meeni, you should ask the one who you feel is knowledgeable and whose knowledge you trust...

Exactly what would one get out of consulting a scholar? Would that have any effect on her marriage status legally? If it's for peace of mind, I understand. But lets say hypoetheically, if it happend to me God forbid, I married another man shortly. Would my marriage be recognized Islamically?

p.s. why do you want "written confirmation" if your husband is saying he hasn't divorced you... perhaps you already feel that what he did probably counts as a divorce or you want to be divorced from him?

it was a mutual decision that i should come to the uk to get treatment for myself (in order to have more children)
then his brother interfered(as usual-he had been trying for so long) and told him to give me a divorce, and he sent me a text saying i divorce you i divorce you i divorce you. thats it
i just think its no point living with him coz he doesnt want any more kids and listens to his brother alot (which gow against me) and plus the physical violence and there was no emotional and financial support either

i see, but of course what really counts here is what you and your husband think... i think even if you convinced yourself that the text message constituted divorce you'd still have to overcome the problem of convincing your husband to that effect given that he believes he hasn't divorced you... if you feel so strongly about separating you can institute khul yourself... as was earlier said, at some point you need to take the advice of someone far more learned than us here... there are a number of factors involved that need to be brought out in the open and analysed...
of course, you absolutely should not have to suffer physical (or emotional) violence and not be financially supported...
