And what about when you hear some bad news GOD forbid? I mean the sadqa type mithai to remove anything which is coming.

in bengal, they have a bunch of sweets that are called sandesh (message). apparently meant to be taken along with any kind of good message. :D omnomnom..

Lately I have seen people distributing sweets at the time of birth of baby girls. Last week, I had mithai from two of the colleagues who were blessed with daughters.

In our family/khandan the celebration(chhathee,aqeeqa) is always same for boys n Girls too.

there shouldn't any difference in the way birth of boys or girls are celebrated, the way some old ladies react on the birth of girls is truly repulsive.

mithai is usually distributed when baat pakki/nikkah/mangni/bacha paidaish.

This is not fazoool kharchi and mostly the mithaii is giving to poor people or lil kids which is good I guess, poor people can’t aford the food,let alone the mithaii, so why not giving them mithaii and get some duas.

i read that as ‘disturbing sweets’.
seems normal to me…a good way of sharing and celebrating the happiness.however i dont like it when ppl do fazool kharchi…like baby is born, kid passed the exam, shaadi ki baat pakki hui etc etc tou they will buy tons of mithais so that they can send it to all the relatives.
