Observing our beliefs is totally our right, it becomes totalitarian when you think my belief is right and others is wrong. As long as people are accepting of that there is no problem. There are many who show hatred and disgust at western values and abuse people who chose to integrate and those people are a problem. When The guest Imam in Montreal made an anti semitic speech and no worshiper spoke against it, that is a problem. When I was invited to a wedding and Imam made an emotional speech about wives are supposed to be obedient and their best place is at home and then people continue to engage him is a big problem. She claims that her belief is the right belief and everything else is wrong and that is the problem. Living in a country and making hateful statements about it, its people and its values is a huge problem.

It is not a small group of people that turned against us it is a really big number, a number so big as to elect DT, you might not care about what they think but the military mandate now is to engage mercilessly without restraints, Israel has had restraints lifted also and there isnt much concern for Rohingyas and also immigration to west will get limited so let us not minimise the consequences of what our behaviors do, the lives of hundreds of millions will be affected very negatively. So if we care about our brothers than we should care about the public opinion.

Anyone who believes in any religion and even atheists for that matter will believe that those who believe differently from them are wrong. That doesn’t necessarily that they are intolerant of each other and can’t coexist peacefully. Sure there may be those who show hatred and abuse those who chose to assimilate (I use assimilate here because I don’t equate integration and assimilation) but the inverse is also true and to me those people are an equal part of the problem. Our imam often tells us that we don’t have to fight with those who don’t follow our ways but we should not have any doubt that certain things, though permitted by law here, are against what Islam teaches us.

I don’t believe DT got elected only because of his anti-Muslim stance. Closer to home, Trudeau got elected even after taking a supportive stance on the niqab during citizenship ceremony issue while the only party who opposed it lost. I still remember getting Conservatives flyer in the mail saying that we should support them because they’re the only party against the niqab at the citizenship ceremony.

I’m not saying I don’t care about public opinion and that we shouldn’t try to be good examples, but more that I don’t really care about what certain haters say. They’ll complain about anything and everything being done by Muslims, whether it has the least bit of effect on their lives or not. If anything takes public opinion against us, it will be the stuff that involves violent extremism and even lack of appreciation of what we are getting here. All that being said, I see no connection to RV for any of the problems that would actually make it difficult for eligible people to immigrate or have any type of negative impact on Muslims or Pakistanis in general.
