Just because we are in USA, we feel it, but in USA there are other crimes as well... which are more horrible than this one... I say her Father did the right thing, she did the right thing, and her husband must learn some lesson now after loosing his child...

No, I think this idiocy is something that we appear to have embraced outside of all religious context. The fact that it is an everyday reality for your pind reinforces the f'ed up nature of male-female relations and power distributions in such households. You do not move on you make a stand and at the very least you don't presume that it is the husband that is suffering due to the loss of an inviable unborn. Personally, I am not aware of any crimes that occur in the west that are exclusive of our "mashriki" culture.
I am not even sure why I'm going into depth talking to you, chances are that 7/10 of the words will fly beyond your understanding - the rest you will justify or try and explain away.
The father is probably not suffering, this probably happens to this woman everyday. The fact is that this was the only incident serious enough to have made the headlines.
