we have all gone to school and college, alhamd-Allah. and so we have knowledge of our respective fields.
the aim of this thread is to welcome fellow guppans and guppies to share one scientific concept from your educational field. you can give a concept, its definition and also how it is applied to real life?
here is mine: research method: the techniques used for gathering date and writing papers on behavioral research studies. it may include observational, co relational (cause and effect) and laboratory based testing in a controlled environment.
Re: Discuss one concept from your field of study or work
case studies.
basically, in the world of psych, there happens to be a person, and he shows this weird anomaly. and to broaden your horizon and to properly understand what's going on, you study this person. you study the person, the environment, before and after the symptoms were presented. for example, from time to time they find jungle kids. children who were basically raised in some far off part of the world, living among animals. kinda like mowgli or tarzan. and they study this child, using documents and other data collected, and learn about things such as language development in the human beings, social interaction between humans etc etc.
" Bernoulli equation relates the sum of pressures to the velocity of the flow past the body. So what this equation tells us is that as velocity increases, pressure decreases and vice versa"
In other words faster an air foil(Wing) is moved through the Air…more Lift it creates…so the shape of the wing and its forward speed in the air lifts even a Million pound Aircraft like the A380…
This theory put into practice has served mankind in more ways than one…
Re: Discuss one concept from your field of study or work
^^ I wanted to write that
anyway , here is from my automotive background ..
Stronger is not always the better. In order to built the car body, you need material that can withstand some force but crush at the same time, absorbing energy at the time of impact (or crash) so the force does not transfer itself to the body of passengar, breaking his bones or killing him.
In other words faster an air foil(Wing) is moved through the Air...more Lift it creates........so the shape of the wing and its forward speed in the air lifts even ** a Million pound Aircraft like the A380...........**
no wonder pressure decreases at high altitudes...seems like phenomenon has nothing to do with gravitational force
no wonder pressure decreases at high altitudes...seems like phenomenon has nothing to do with gravitational force
**Zobi Ji be careful what you conclude from my statement...................the low air pressure at high altitude does not make an airplane fly.............Only Helium Balloons i.e. gas which is lighter than air does that.
Airplanes fly because of their fast forward motion...............kapeesh?:)

Re: Discuss one concept from your field of study or work
Something I learnt today whilst revising = Snakes e.g. pythons dont develop limbs although they do have leg limb buds whilst an embryo, however dont express apical ectopic ridge (aer) and the bud doesnt develop into legs! Whilst other animals express aer (or genes associated with it) and develop there limb buds.
So AER and Fibroblast Growth Factors (FGF) are what cause your limbs to grow, both legas and arm signals are the similar.
lol! today was developmental biology, tommorow it's immunology- even more exciting stuff
zoology...if ony. I study genetics:( but we have to learn biology in general, hence the animal development and biochemistry too :( I thought I wouldnt bore u with the biochem and give an interesting point instead.
Today was immunology... innate/ acquired immunity comes from: mucus, shedding of fluids and skin
starcity,
its good that you shared this.
nice to know you study genetics.
are you a pre med?
best,
Dushwari
I'm not a pre- med, actually I've no idea what I'm gonna do next- just tryin to get a genetics degree 1st and decide from there- At the moment I'm totally confused what I shud do next, lol. What do u study Dushwari?
