Discuss one concept from your field of study or work

Hello All,

Nice topic Dushwari My field is computer programming, and i'm a fan of artificial intelligence. I would like to discuss something about programming called object oriented programming.

It had been believed that the most complex things human beings have created are some of the programs, So in our industry, even quite in earlier days there had been a tendency to work on how to make programmers maintainable and less complex.

The major break through was "Object Oriented Programming", the idea was to think about a program, as a collection of objects interacting with each other, Just like persons.

Experts had written alot on why this simple idea was so usefull, My take on this, is that it was useful because, it was not far away from how we usually think, We often know alot of things/people/places but things don't become complex for us, because these are objects.

Alot could be written on this but this is meant to provide just an idea...

"Fair Value"

Fair Value is the value at which you can trade your asset in a market. Most of the investments a company makes are required to be shown on its balance sheet at that Fair Value. At times you do not have a market for some assets, so you continue using some arbitrary value and your investors believe that you have many assets and your banks continue giving you loans believing the same.

One day, you need money and cannot sell those assets. Everybody realizes that the value is around ZERO. And you get what Obama calls 'Financial Crises'.

Facilitation of meetings:

1- Be prepared by studying the current process
2- Conduct pre-interviews with the stakeholders to determine meeting objectives
3- Set ground rules for meeting
and so on

While there are numerous i will discuss few that can be understood by everyone.

One is Peer Review.

It means that a complaint or adverse incident be reviewed by a comittee of doctors to see if standards of care have been breached, while its generally seems a good idea, but it has one serious problem.

If i know forexample that a certain "practice" in an institution is not really scientific or evidence based, i wud still be likely to follow whatever is being done for fear that doing that bcoz if i go against it, i will be blamed for adverse event for not following what others beleive in.

Ico, are you reviewing with us what you learnt in London?
