I’m not sure how useful this bit of news is, but heard in a talk show recently that GoP is unable to provide electricity not because of the shortage of capacity but rather because IMF has stringent conditions. One of which is that Pakistan will reduce the amount of imported crude oil. Which is also used to run Power generation stations, if I understand correctly.

Pakistan’s electricity producing capacity has always been surplus, it’s the required components to reach that number which have been bottlenecked due to economic reasons.

How true all of that is, I’m not really sure. But sounds logical. It’d be nice if GoP could just come out and give public the core facts and truth, and take the public in confidence over the essential matters. It would greatly serve to reduce public frustration and make people want to strive to avoid IMF and be self-sufficient in the future.

Thank you IMF if they did that as not only can’t Pakistan, and it hasn’t in the past, been able to foot the entire bill but RPPs are a sure way of getting kickbacks on the side. It is a reason that PPP with Mr. 10% running things, be it now or in the nineties, always LOVE the RPPs but shut down kalabagh and any other dams to “build a consensus”
