Dining table

I need help ladies … you know the tablecloth that goes right through dining table like this grey one in the pic :

I am thinking of making one myself , using Crochet :hmmm: ..or even some fancy cloth …Yellow crochet with red cloth under it , is what i have in mind

But i am fearing one thing , when food will be kept on it , it can stain the crochet and spoil it forever … any options ? do people actually remove the center cloth before dinner and put it back in place after eating … :konfused: .. is there any other way i can protect the center piece :hmmm:

Re: Dining table

That gray cloth is called a table runner. You can easily buy pre-made ones at reasonable prices. If you are worried about staining a nice fabric, they sell clear plastic table cloths that you can put over it.

Re: Dining table

Afro you have any pics to show that clear plastic sheet? I havnt seen any yet in the UK

Re: Dining table

We have a table runner too and we use clear plastic over it…BTW, walmart has the best kind which is thick and very durable, they sell it by yard in the fabrics section. :k:

Re: Dining table

The clear plastic sheet is readily available in places that sell table cloth on the roll. I don't know where you live otherwise would have been able to give details for more specific shops.

Re: Dining table

guys do you have any pics of the plastic sheet on the table :hmmm: .. I just wanna have an idea of how it will look :konfused:

Re: Dining table

i will try to find one for you. I know here in the states you can get it from like Kmart/Walmart/Target etc. Its good to have if you have good linens for your table but dont want to accidentally ruin them when guests arent over (kids, spillings etc)....just put plastic sheet over it, so u can see the pretty linens.

Re: Dining table

here is a pic i found online just to give an idea. Basically you see thru it, but provides protection to the linens.

Guys i am so thankful to you all for posting the pics , I think i will get this plastic sheet now :lifey: .. anyone from the UK has any idea where this thing can be obtained from :@:

Re: Dining table

we used to have ours look exactly like Corrupt Angel's but you have to work hard to keep it smudge free warna it looks bad. Nowadays i have a plain plastic table cloth from a roll at Hobby Lobby i think without a runner but i would LOVE to use the runner without the plastic on it. My only concern is that my wooden table will get ruined if i dont use clear plastic on it. Btw make sure you dont use uneven fabric on your dining table, like crochet or something with beads on it since that might make it harder to balance your plates, glasses etc.

I wnt to know how to keep my dining table look spic and span all the time with layers of gorgeous fabric and place settings on it!

Re: Dining table

^Ira, we had bought a clear plastic tablecloth from Bed bath&Beyond before but it was so delicate plus anything and everything used to get glued to it and no matter how much I tried to clean it kept looking more dull but this one that we got from walmart is pretty thick and it’s a snap to clean…you should def check at walmart(gosh do I sound like a walmart rep :hehe: )…I really don’t think placing a runner and placemats directly on the wooden table is a good idea. I do use some fancy fabric tablecloths for dawats and they are stain resistant.

Re: Dining table

Ira , I wanna know that too .. the dining table looking gorgeous all the time with layers of fantastic looking fabrics … ladies help us :@:

you know my mom made a lovely single layer crochet tablecloth … it was full size and then put this plastic sheet on top … it loooooked so fantastic and we had no issues at all with balancing the glasses … however you are right in pointing out that beads and other decorative stuff can cause issues .. :hmmm:

Thanks..

I believe you can get the clear plastic from a fabrics and crafts store in UK…Just don’t get the kind that’s very thin and delicate because it can ruin the whole look of your table decorations.

Re: Dining table

CA , my only concern is that the thick one , wont settle well at the table’s corner :hmmm: … I mean i remember at mom’s place the corners were always standing out while i really like the corners settled neatly … any tips on that?

Re: Dining table

^I don't think that can be done...I don't know...you can try tape but that will probably ruin the look too IMO...

Re: Dining table

yeah definitely ... so what are the options?
