I don’t know which faction they belong to yet, but they aren’t Hazara, Uzbeks, Greeks, Persians, Aimaks or Balochs, I think. That leaves Pakhtuns or Tajiks. The kids are full of themselves. Maybe this summer I might get to speak to the man of the house.

Why don't you build a garden shed, then get a few friends to destroy it. This way they'll feel at home. Whilst you're at it, you may as well turn off the mains electricity and water supply to the neighbourhood, domesticate a few animals and mistreat your womenfolk in public to make a real grand gesture of solidarity.
Yeah, I think I’ll follow CM’s advice, alright. I’ve always fancied myself as the Spetznatz type. Aloo, it might be hard to get widespread destruction in the 'hood. Freelancing T-55’s and MI-8’s are few and far between here in the States. No shortage of wise guys around here. BTW, the basic question is not made up.
These edits are compliments of an obscure alliance of US, Israeli, Indian, Chinese and Russian computer saboteurs. Did I leave anyone out?
I would imagine T,that you will end up trying to engage them in conversation and welcoming them to the US,as would most westeners that would come to a forum like this after 9-11 to engage and try to learn from a foreign culture that we obviously do not know enough about.
I wouldn’t worry about what factions they are with.
Just go over and welcome them to the neighborhood. It usually makes people feel more at ease, if they think the people already living there welcome them and accept them.
I like Shireen's suggestion - take a box of candy or something, especially for their children. They might appreciate that. IF they don't respond warmly at first, don't take it personally - they might just be feeling overwhelmed and nervous and will just need some time to settle in.
However I would tell Tomasso, if i was being serious and offering advice, to knock on the door and ask if the whole family would like to come to his place for tea. He should have made the tea before hand. Also he should not discuss politics, unless they start. Stick to topics of the weather, how they like the US etc. Oh yeah if they want some shaving cream!

Don’t worry, I am getting there. Soon he wil be a brain washed brit. Plus If i am not at the persons throat, I like the guy.

hmm good advice. I personally would stick away from discussing whether or not they like the US: IF they don’t, they might feel uncomfortable saying so to Tomasso’s face. If they do, then perhaps they’ll bring up the subject themselves. Good idea not to discuss politics or religion, unless they bring it up first.

Isn’t Braveheart Scottish? I thought Scots (and Irish) hated it when we call them Brits… or is he a Brit-loving Scot?
Agreed, religion and politics would not be a good idea. Nor anything culturally orientated. He might ask what the man of the house is doing, how the kids are doing in class and schools etc.

Actually the Afghans are known as very hospitible people, and very concerned that their guests are well cared for. They are very protective of those in their care, and are genuinely concerned that you had a good visit. I would imagine that they would be receptive to the same type of treatment.
How to get your wife into that Burkka........who knows?
Yes i am a Scot, which i suppose also makes me a Brit but seeing as though i left Scotland when i was 3years old and didn`t return till i was 32,i never grew up with all that nationalistic stuff, live and let live,i say.I thank you for thinking about it though.
