I am interested in buying a nice digital camera. By nice, I mean a camera that has a pretty good resolution, takes good quality pictures, and at the same time, the image size is no more than 100 kbs/image. That way I can store more pictures before I transfer them over to the PC.
I am not into digigal cameras, so please reply in English, not in Chinese, and do let me know what you would recommend. If you also post a link to the camera’s picture and features, that would really be appreciated.
ok .. you should look for something around 3 mega Pixel camera.. the image file size you can choose from camera setting and its not an issue… to store more pictures you can always buy memory for it.. and its available upto 512 and 1GB if camera supports it.but still there are some features you should look for..
1st Optical zoom..2nd betteries if camera supports AA size batteries then its not expansive in long term as you can buy extra batteries very cheap but if camera support only that company’s battery then its an expansive deal*
and the price you are willing to pay.
I would suggest to go for FujifilmS5000 .. its a nice camera witch automatic and manual controls that means you can shoot just by clicking or can set all parameters like shutter speed, aparture time etc by yourself
just a quick note.. how much you are willing to pay for a good camera let me know and I will try to narrow down to the models suitable for your budget.
Assuming this is your first digital camera, don’t go too down the deep end in search of manual features or gazillion bells and whistles that you may never use. Click here](http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=113) and select a camera that is in your $$ range. They are all nice cams. Before buying a camera, visit a local electronics store, if possible and hold the camera in your hands to see if it feels comofortable (weight, LCD size etc). If you want to save some bucks, then buy online, using a price comparison site (e.g. pricegrabber, Yahoo Shopping etc) to fetch the best deal.
Faisal bhai How come they don't show the price? True, I am not looking for anything fancy, something simple that saves me from taking pics on 35mm and then scan them.
Faizy pra What's the average pic size on digi cams? I've seen people posting LARGE pictures on gupshup (which has to be less than 108kb). Do they crop the pictures? Because the pictures seem to be in full size and the quality is pretty good too. How do they do that? Image editing softwares?
Darn it! So it depends how many colors or stuff there is in the picture. hmmmm…Sony seems to be a nice brand and not that much expensive. As faisal bhai said, I will have to go to a store and take a look at it first hand, then maybe I can buy it from ebay? only if the freaking site stops bidding 50 cents more than my bid automatically
since we are already at this.. whats a better choice between Sony 5.1 megapixel/3.optical zoom/3.2 digital zoom or Cannon 3.2 Megapixel/3.0 optical/3.2 digital zoom?
Also, keep in mind I want the pics size to be small as well as good!
Oh by the way, I need information about the memory stick too.. pretty naive to digital world, I must admit :$

what models we are talking about here?
i would say its not tough !! 5M camera is an obviouse choice for me!! but then again it all comes to the model..
alritey THanx.. I just checked out your digi cam buyers guide... I am inclined towards Canon because of its megapixels since I dun want those large images and are not going to do anything professionally anywayz... but then you might suggest something else!
now next question is memory stick.. which one should I buy 256 or 512?
no laughs please if it sounds silly but what does these two terms mean and whats the difference?
ok .. Technically speaking Canon 3.2M pix is a better option, you have a wider control over different features.. BUT its sensor manufacturer is "unknown" that mean its a 2nd party sensor and Canon used it for the cost effectiveness...On that bases I would suggest to go for Sony. it has more pixels and comes with 32MB memory which is double then the canon's.. and the best thing about this camera is that it uses AA size batteries which is really important :)
umm ok Sony.. and what can I do about the pic sizes then?
is there any way that I can reduce the size without affecting the quality because just by looking at your thread it seems like 5Megapixels is too much for me but then I liked the looks of Sony and also the advantage of AA battery..
just tell me how to reduce the size and also if its gonna affect alot on picture quality and I am all set for Sony!

Memory stick 256MB and 256MB Compact Flash??

hmm its quite simple actually.. 512 can store more pictures then 256.. let me put it this way you are buying a TANK to store water, what would you prefer? a 256 litters Tank or the tank which can store 512Litters of water??
Sony uses Memory stick in all their cameras .. the difference is just the type and shape.. the basic function is the same.

:) a very common misconception!! you can always set the picture size from camera settings.. 5M doesn't mean it will use all the 5M of CCD to capture image!! if you set it to basic it will use about 1.2M of it which is same as any 3.2M camera. and no it Woun't effect the iamge quality.
umm but for 5 megapixels a 256 MB card can store only 100 pics but for 3 it can have almost 200 pics..if I am going to spend 70 dollars on memory card then shouldn't I go for 200 pics?
so Canon isn't using AA battery and that can be an issue or just something that you won't suggest?
gosh why are these cameras sooo confusing.. they could have just made an easy digi camera for someone like me :(
