If you are in the market for DSLR get the Nikon D40, its about $500 for the body. D300 is for high end professional photographers (unless u can afford whatever).

body only :S what can we do with body only??? is it useful?? i think it's original cost for the whole thing is $1000 (or around it)

Here, Adorama has the kit at $495, body with the with 18-55mm lens, not the best lens but a good start.

I highly recommend Canon's Powershot G7. I got it a few months ago and it's freaking amazing! (esp. for its size). It's not exactly a point and shoot but not an SLR either. It's just in between. A good compromise of both. I love it.

The only problem I've had with it is that you get red eye in a lot of the pictures. If you want a camera that you can put in your purse and take anywhere, I would think twice.

for good results you may want to consider the Fuji F31. Great on quality and affordably priced too.

sorry, actually i mean someone else who also favor this camera, and i don’t want to buy it just because of it’s cost, i want to buy it if its’ a really good camera. something that i can use for normal family event photography, as a hoppy and also as a professional photography (if i ever get there)
