if only i knew had to read urdu! i'd read them, it's more fun reading novels with a pakistani setting and a culture you can actually relate to.

still more interesting than boyfriend stories in the novels from the west, that's why I read historical novels, their stories involve arranged marriage.

zobia,if u really want to read,then just read khawateen digest n shuaa.....they're the best....n i'm a big reader maself...wenevr u need any help abt book selection,main haazir hoon......

Xcom_Cheetah....Urdu Digest ..is one of the oldest..ne of the biggest..one of the finest..and one of the most popular digest of Pakistan....i have read it a lot....in past....
there is not any vulgarity..and cheapness in Urdu Digest....
I like specailly...the review of political situation by editor..Pakistan top most journalist...Altaf Hassan Qureshi....very learned and brave man....his review comes with heading..Kuch Apni Zuba mai
His brother*..Dr Ijaz Hassan Qureshi* also writes in Daily Nawai Waqt...he is the former Principal of King Edward Medical College Lahore....
Also ..very good digest is Qaumi Digest ..under ..Mujeeb ur Rehamn Shami..a man ..i think..is known to all Pakistanis.....the editor of daily Pakistan...also..and one of the most professional urdu journalist of pakistan after** Majeed Nizami of Nawai Waqt....**
but presently..Qaumi Digest ...includes more romantric stories..so it has lost its circulation..previously ..it was very good....
Hikayat is also good ..but it also has many stories ..not interesting matertial...

It covers all topics... Sort of reader digest of urdu... It has simple life histories sometime analysis of historical events, some good translated stuff from foreign countries. Also sports and world politics and some funny scripts also, and some very light hearted real life stories ...
They started some good series too but didn't complete them, i remember reading abt the history of templar knights, but it was a serial type of topic but after i think 4 or 5 months they stopped printing it... similarly there was one of the serial on the biography of some sub continent wizard... but they stopped it in the middle too... but it was an interesting read..
i used to avoid national political analysis... after i found that last month the person was saying totally opposite to the current month...:) but anyway they r analysis so they r bound to have their shortfalls... but the good thing is that they do not give much space to it...
Overall as somebody pointed out a very well balanced digest with lot of quality stuff...

Well, Umaira Ahmed's Peer-e-Kamil is my most fav. book.I don't think that there can be any other book as this. Although I have read many other books of her; I have not read Amar Bail yet but my cousin told me that it has a sad ending. Aab-e-Hayat will get printed in Khawateen digest after few months.
