I have noticed that many absolutely abhor Indian movies, yet cannot stop praising Pakistani movies. To be quite honest, I have only watched very few Pakistani movies recently. The ones that I watched and liked are the old Pakistani movies with Waheed Murad, Mohd Ali, Shabnam, etc. At least they were more sensible and had some sort of originality and you could tell it’s a Pakistani movie.
On the contrary, Pakistani movies these days don’t seem much different from contemporary Indian movies. Many stories seem bogus and mostly revolve around romance. I have watched many clips and if I see unfamiliar faces, I could never tell whether it’s a Pakistani or an Indian movie.
If I were to criticize Indian and Pakistani movies, I would criticize them equally because I don’t see much of a difference, if at all any.
Could those who strongly dislike Indian movies and like Pakistani movies please point out to me the differences between Pakistani and Indian movies? Perhaps there is something that I have missed by not regularly watching the latest Indian and Pakistani movies.
Re: Difference between Indian and Pakistani movies
Sadiyah, I admire that you are criticizing both movies on the basis of plot and story-lines. Much needs to be done and so far every one is going after copy-paste movies....no one likes to take a risk, but can't blame'em coz look at the pirated copies. The distributors etc don't make money so the only thing they can think of is making money as soon as possible rather than exploring art.
Re: Difference between Indian and Pakistani movies
I'm still waiting to have the differences brought forth that would clearly suggest how Lollywood movies are superior to Bollywood movies.
MP, I understand all of that, but I constantly get to read people praising or at least appreciating Pakistani movies while putting down Indian movies. Hence, the reason I have asked to be shown the differences to prove that Pakistani movies are better.
Re: Difference between Indian and Pakistani movies
here we go again, aap wohi topic debate kar kar kay taktay nahi hein kya? We all know how crap our pakistani movies are compared to bollywood or hollywood movies…what more is there to discuss? those who are still in favour of pakistani movies - wake up and stop being soo ignorant! I think it’s going to take atleast another decade before we see some proper improvement…dont even get me started on Reema’s latest venture
Re: Difference between Indian and Pakistani movies
Here's an analogy:
You know how the kid who always gets str8 A's gets that certificate that says "Congratulations, you were a straight A student this year", with a cheesy golden sticker?
But then the kid that goes from being an F student who says that his parents aren't home usually, and he's having to raise his 5 sisters, and has managed to get himself off marijuana gets that big-arse trophy that the A-student comes into the cafeteria just HOPING that it might be his?
A-student = Indian director/producer
180-degree turn around student = Pakistani director/producer
That's why you see more praise when Reema comes out with a blasted movie where she gives deadpan expressions, albeit with more colorful clothes.
Re: Difference between Indian and Pakistani movies
Faliure is a part of life, Indian movies are good but some rest of 'em are nothing but bunch of crap and so are Hollywood movies. Just look at this summer "March of the Penguins" is the only visible hit of the summer, last year it was a documentary about Bush and Jesus movie that made most of the money. Movies like Toy story and Finding Nemo have made Hollywood what is today, movies like Terminator and Matrix have made Hollywood what is today. That's it, all Pakistan needs is a good solid movie that is an orginal idea and the ship will start to sale the trend will start...keep the faith, encourage Artists and if you be critical be on the basis of stroy or direction not on 'yo you suck yo....'
Re: Difference between Indian and Pakistani movies
I'm looking for an answer from those who despise Indian movies, but absoutely love Pakistani movies because it's usually them who put down Indian movies and venerate Pakistani movies.
Re: Difference between Indian and Pakistani movies
whats the difference? gee. where do we start!
indian films are bollox
paki films are bollox-er!
paki films: use the same cameras and equipment they were using in the 80s! the picture and sound quality is like something from a home movie! the sound bites and sound effects are laughable…i could swear the ‘horse neighing’ sound is the same one they used to use in Noor Jehans early days! in one scene i remember sultan Rahi defending himself againt 5/6 gunmen by deflectingtheir bullets away with a spade! (belcha!)
whenever a film becomes a ‘hit’ the rest of the industries producers and directors decide to jump on the bandwagon and rape the same storylines! remember the aftermath of chooriya!!!
the films are like softcore porn movies! the reliance on sexual ‘expression’ in dancing, songs and dialogues is nothing short of disgusting. etc etc etc bla bla.
all in all. Lollywood is the only thing that makes me feel ashamed to call myself a Pakistani:mad: …otherwise i am a VERY patriotic Paki.
indian films: used to be **** in the 20s, 30s and 40s. Dilip Kumar made some good films and rejuvinated the industry. Amitabh Bachchan carried this torch into the 70s and 80s and took Bollywood to another level(IMO, the best bolly has ever been) an era soo potent for successful films, that one could argue that more hits were made in india than were made in hollywood/NYCFI!
since mid 80s through to 90s and early this millennium, bollywood has returned to its original state of making ****EEEE movies, but occasionally, and rarely coming out with a cracker or 2! new technology and ideas are coming into bolly, that will always keep it ahead of Lolly, and thankfully, more realistic storylines! but still, sex sells! and the directors intend on exploiting this to the maximum!
nutshell contents of the above editorial:
indian films (bollywood) : ****e
paki films (lollywood) : ****e-ter

.. not entirely.. just suffered from pooor lighting.. actually classic studio photography lighting all the time which didn't exactly work for the film medium.. so u had "static" scenes with just one fixed kinda light and everything was dark everywhere.. but the music more than enough made up for all the other technical shortcomings.. u just cannot find better compositions than the classics from that era..
I say to Lollywood.. ok.. i'll accept crappy scripts, crappy acting, crappy everything but i can't take crappy music and crappy production.. it's an audio/visual medium.. if i wanted true plots i'd read a novel.. just keep the presentation top notch.. shoestring budget hollywood fartsy movies are produced better than the mega million lollywood flicks so it's not just money.. it's about know-how.. and sadly lollywood doesn't know how.
All's not lost. just let the guys who produce music videos like Khamaj more money and u'd fix what's wrong with Lollywood..
