Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
lol..i wanted 2 learn but struggled coz i used 2 work fulltime and was really into my studies...i learnt the main method of cooking...like simple dishes..karahi goshth, keema, chicken karahi...and that was it...its got me through 8 months of marraige so far mashallah
I was really scared that I wouldnt know how to cook, but i wrote recipes down in a book which I refer to always and sometimes my parents drop food over (bless em!) and sometimes I just experiment...once you have made 2-3 dishes, you kinda figure out what you need to do and why...you'll be fine!
Just learn at least 2-3 main dishes...and then just say 2 ur saas that u love her cooking so much that u wanna learn from her....and that way she shall teach u it all ;)
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
definitely before ... I love cooking , although I work fulltime , I love to cook ... :@:
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
I am not married and I can cook. The only thing I don't like making is roti and I have never tried making it and I have no plans of trying it out in future either.
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
wayyy before. i was cooking at 16-17... if not for the halal/hararm/ alcohol limitations on us, I would've totally gone into a culinary school!
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
I know how to cook. Learnt it all. Can even make roti and parathas etc.
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
i have learn it from two yrs. but i can cook onlye desi foods.i dont know abt chinese thai and all food.and my roti is mostly not round:P
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
I knew some of it... and some I learned later...
but my hubby had a good laugh every morning when he saw the maps of the world on his roti! lol
I'm not married, but I enjoy cooking, so you could say I'm learning before :D.
I like to experiment with desi and western recipes. With desi recipes, I've learned that the foundation for many of the dishes is pretty similar (same spices, onion, garlic, tomatoes)....and waiting until the oil rises to the surface to know that the salan is done cooking. Once you get a hang of the foundation....desi cooking is not hard.
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
never lifted a finger before hte wedding. only started afterwards.
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
^sara lol - can you explorer more on this - are you adjusting? or are you a pro by now?
you spoiled brat ![]()
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
Knew how to make a few basic things before marriage like karhai, keema, ravioli :). Been married 8 months and still only know the basics. I dont care to delve in more. If I ever wanna make something complicated I can call mom for the recipe. It's not a big deal. You don't need to know it unless you have to or want to cook.
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
okay now how the heck are karhai and keema dishes basic????
well my mom always said she didnt want me to worry about it and to concentrate on school. but now I think it may have ben she just didnt wanna share her kitchen b/c I cant imagine wanting to share my kitchen either!
When I started I would ask my mom ro MIL on how to make it, and now i have developed my own way of making things. plus i’d ask ALOT of questions on GS, bothered alot of members on msn, still open up threads asking silly things, and everyone here has been so helpful.
Seriosuly, if i can learn to cook, anyone can . ![]()
thats exactly how it all happened with me ! I was always in the boarding , away from home so didnt get a chance to learn cooking and now on my own I have developed the interest and I think its one of the finest skills is life … so much fun …
you start getting hang of things slowly … I think GS helped me big time … ![]()
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
^ i agree GS is a big help! its the first place i turn to before my MIL/mom :D
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
i knew eggs and rice.... 1.5 years after marriage, i'm learning every time i cook!
Re: Did you learn how to cook before or after marriage?
not married. full time career. learned to cook after moving away from home for school ... enjoy it too ... its a nice break from work
before marriage i only used to make (wo be kisi k anay pur ya jub apna mood ho)fried chicken simple and seedha style...zeeray walay alu which i used to eat with fork by putting lemon juice all over and then w8 for mom to cook something....chicken karahi....and sometimes paratha from pre-kneaded dough for dad only(really used to cut it with a knife in square and nice sq. paratha)...yeah salads for dawwuts...
during my uni time i did only these things and never knew how to cook ...right after marriage before leaving pakistan,i asked mum to dictate me some recipes like alu gosht..biryani...chana daal...tarkay walay chawal and all that...and then cooked for the first time chanay ki daal and rice for my hubby on our 1st valentine (he loves chana daal after me) and dat was gr8..also biryani b achi bun jati thee...but i used to spoil most of the things ...shadi k 2-2.5 yr tuk i never cooked roti...but now mashallah i do handle gatherings and all dawats all alone here and my husband is so happy with my cooking...be it desi or some continental...i can say i learnt after marriage...and indeed roti gave me a real hard time ..so tough to master ...
