Re: Did Sachin deserve MoM today?
That's how great nations remember/appreciate their Heroes and no doubt Sachin is like a God figure in India ...
Sadly PCB is no where near BCCI in terms of money , connections , relations- otherwise it would be Wahab Riaz, who genuinely made a match out of it
Re: Did Sachin deserve MoM today?
tendulkar may not have been an ideal MoM but there is no question that it was the right decision. saying that MoM should have gone to wahab riaz is ridiculous. MoM is not about who had the relatively best individual performance to be evaluated in isolation without context.
five wicket haul is nowhere near enough to deserve MoM over the most significant contributor to the winning side in a world cup semi-final match. tendulkar happened to be that player.
So that is my question here. Does anybody know what the official selection criteria is for MoM?

I don't believe the "official criteria" is publicly available, but if you look historically its generally been the performer whose contribution impacted the match result the most. More often than not, this is a player from the winning side who scored the max runs or took the max wickets or both. Sometimes, it could be a player from the losing side who brought his team close to victory in a "close" game.

Re: Did Sachin deserve MoM today?
I was just about to say this, if it wasn’t for wahab it wouldn’t have been such a close game and india would have made 300 easily. ![]()
Also if it really had to be the winning side, then still its wasn’t tendulkar who deserved it, it should have been sehwag. If it wasn’t for his start india wouldn’t have been so confident from the beginning. They way he picked up runs was amazing. ![]()

I feel the reason for giving tendulkar the MoM was because it is his last world cup and the way they kept repeating how all the 5 times pak and india have met in world cups, he has always been in the team and won. The MoM was for all those wins not just this win, thats what it felt to me as a viewer. And Before anyone kills me here
I would like to say peace
because it is not because pak lost, I would have been ok if anyone else in the indian team got the MoM, such as munaf, nehra, sehwag as they were great. Also no offence to sachin and his fans, he is without a doubt amazing player and I am his fan as well.
Also congrats India:indiaflag:

I don't think there is an official criteria. Also the people who decide the MOM are different everytime and since there is no official criteria.. the criteria will be different for each game based on what these people think of the MOM. Hence I find it quite pointless to go on about this.
IMO? If any indian bowler would have taken 3-4 wks it wouldve been him. But it was a team effort there as all 5 bowlers took 2 wks each. Sachin's runs (regardless of how frustrating his innings were) made a big difference and hence he took it. I can't complain too much.
Re: Did Sachin deserve MoM today?
Sachin got 4 lives, agreed. Out of those chances, only 1 (to Younis) was a sitter.
A lesser player would have thrown his wicket in frustration. But he persisted. The hallmark of a great player iis he delivers the goods when he is having a totally off day.
To me Sehwag equally deserved it. He essentially threw Umar Gul off his game. That 21-run over took the life out of Pakistan and enabled India to reach 260 in spite of middle order breakdown.

I am not sure that is quite correct. To have a different criteria everytime sounds quite odd to me.
But then again, whether there is a criteria or not is not public knowledge :)
Re: Did Sachin deserve MoM today?
How can you be the Man of the Match when your team lost ?).
Same way Sachin got it in Chennai, or Javagal got it in Calcutta or Srikanth got it in Calcutta.
You are the guy, I'd expect to remember above
Re: Did Sachin deserve MoM today?
The player... I dont agree with he criteria being different for eachgamen. Just hownit seems to be sincethere is no official criteria and the deciders are different everytime.
Nikemma.... It seems to me that they give a MoM to a guy from the losing side wuen he performs really exceptionally well ... Again there isnt really an official stance so theres bound to be people questioning the MoM decision everynow and then
