OK, India played well together and won the match, congratulations for that.
Sachin is a good player and there is no doubt about that.
But c’mon man, can Sachin be the MoM today for the innings he played? Honestly it was one of the most amateur innings you would see. He was not able to play even part time bowlers and needed how many drop chances to reach 85? 4? 5?
Based on this performance can someone award him MoM? What are your views?
But you have to give it to somebody and the other contender was on the losing side (not that losing side players don't get MoM but it does not sound very logical. How can you be the Man of the Match when your team lost ?).
I would have given it to Ashish Nehra though.
Folks have ridiculed him - but he did more than a decent job today.
no real star from the indian side, bowling was cohesive which is what worked out in the end, batting was very mediocre. im guessing they wanted to give the MOM to someone from the winning team. otherwise riaz probably was the only real contender.
This was not a typical Sachin innings, but given the difficult batting conditions his 85 was invaluable to India making it to 260. So this may not be a convincing MoM choice, but is the best one for me.
Wahab's had a fantastic spell but hi contribution did not impact the result of the match since in the end it was not really a close game. Nehra or Raina....maybe.

That is not a very mature analysis. You cannot look at the final score difference (29 runs) and say it was not a close game. One catch (we dropped 4 or 5) or better timing and utilisation of batting PP (just 1 or 2 good overs) or Hafeez not getting out when he did (he gifted his wicket rather than the bowler getting him out) could have swung the game firmly in Pakistan's favour
Today's game infact proves that the two teams are evenly matched (despite the hype) and Pakistan are more than capable of beating India despite the latter's superior batting. Remember this is ODI, on another day we might have seen a very different result between the same sides
^^ Arey yaar, who knows it would have been Pak strategy to keep the hitters at bay by allowing Sachin to stay? So I don't think it made much of a difference. Batting from both teams was pathetic on a pitch that was a tailor made for batting. So in such conditions if batters are not able to make more runs then bowlers must have been working extremely hard.
So the MoM should have been from the bowling department and if not giving it to the losing team is the criteria, it should have gone to Nehra.

MoM is decided after everything is over & done, so the adjudicators cannot say that at the end of the 35th over Pak seemed to be winning and that was due to Wahab's spell, so lets give him the MoM award.
After the match has been decided, the contribution of the contenders to the overall result is seen and then the MoM is decided. If not for Sachin's 85, India would have probably lost in the 40th over today.
Riaz, Nehra and Munaf were the true contender. Tendi was very poor in his innings. Except for two solid shots he was like getting out on every ball he faced. Our YK and Misbah did the same thing, they were not lucky to have bad fielding side today.

I am only disputing your assertion that it was not a close game. Sachin's 85 was certainly crucial

OK..lets agree to disagree on that. Don't know if you watched it live or online, but watching it live it was pretty evident that Pak had given up after 40 odd overs.
The pitch was very easy to bat on, experts agree on that.
This is what cricinfo had to say:

" 3.3 Abdul Razzaq to Sehwag, FOUR, length ball which is pretty straight and Sehwag has hit it straight. He planted his front foot forward and hit the ball through the line over the bowler's head.

This is a flat flat pitch by the way. "*
Looks like you did not hear what the commentators (Akram, Shastri, Majrekar, Ramiz etc) were saying when the match was on :)
