Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

my doc said that i should go on it. sicne it would prevent the lining of my uterus from being exposed to excessive estrogen, which would in turn prevent any chances of me developing cancer of the uterus. also, i would regulate my period and help my acne.

the only thing is, i know my mom would not want me to. she doesn’t approve of contraceptive drugs, since it might effect my fertility chances (she hasn’t come out and said it, but i know this is what she means). though, my thinking is, that is since my cycle is messed up already, what are the chances that i would be normal fertile. (know what i am saying?)

but i don’t want to take my chances and die of uterus cancer. it’s bad! and i wanna get rid of my acne. dude! i am like old now. my cousin got rid of hers when she was my age, and it was worse for her. and i do want to get rid of the whole headache of abhi period aya kay abhi aya.

now i need your opinion. should i go on the pills, or should i not? if i should, why? if i shouldn’t, why not? (i know the blood clot risks). what other risks are there for me? and do you really think that when i do want to get pregnant, it is going to screw up my normal chances? HELP!

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

I am on the pill right now, and as far as acne...I havent seen a big help in resolving that issue for me...but then i dont really have bad acne... if your doc is recommneding the pill as a solution to another problem...why dont you ask the doc about all this... tell him about wanting to have kids and your concerns...perhaps there is another medication you can take...

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

have you had any noticeable side effects like weight gain?

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

I worked for a fertility specialist and have suffered through infertility myself...the pill rarely causes infertility and can actually help or cure some types of infertility problems. When your cycles are irregular, you're much more likely to face troubles conceiving since hormones are needed at exact times during the cycle and the uterine lining needs to be sufficient for implantation. The pill regulates these things. An infertility doc will usually prescribe the pill for irregular cycles and have the patient take it for about 6 months. That is usually sufficient to get the cycles regular. Other types of birth control, like depo-provera or those that suppress menstruation are the types to avoid - they make your reproductive system shut down and sometimes it cant get started up again. I had used the depo-provera shot for about 18 months and thats what caused my infertility. 6 months on birth control pills will probably help you and its a short term thing. Since your age makes it a bit of a risk with blood clots, you may want to ask about aspirin therapy too. One baby aspirin a day has been shown to prevent this type of clot. As far as weight gain, its mostly water and breast swelling which will go away once you stop taking it.

Its a very personal decision but I'd say go for it to get your cycles regular. You'll likely have the added benefit of better skin too.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

my doc adviced it for me too … i suggest u to not use it ..coz i got the side effects like weight gain after periods everytime…plus bad kindaa acne…which was not exactly like acne it was soemthing like i felt like to just snatch my face my skin got very irretated :-S .

so this was my experience and i used it for almost a year n after tht even no effect :bummer:

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

but there are various kinds of pills with various effects? doesnt it depend on which type you are taking? im considering taking the pill too ( as a form of contraception not for acne or anythiong!) but ive heard so much negativity about it that im getting worried and anxious…i dont know what to do? to take or not to take?

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

Mama no kidding? See I keep telling my excuse for a doctor that depo has caused problems and he refuses to believe me.
He put me on it cause popping a pill every day was an effor for me. I took it for 3 months and had a horrible experience.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

wats depo?

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

Injection. Its supposed to thicken the lining of your utereus as it contains male hormones. It also stops period.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

Hmm I took Diane 35 about 5 years ago along with other acne medication. My cycles also were and actually have always been irregular. I loved the pill, and MaashaAllah didnot see any side affects (weight gain, etc). Even my acne had cleared up. Later on I took other bps too and I think they do somewat help with acne. So why dont you give it a try ? If you have questions about them affecting fertility, mamaof3 has good advice, plus ask your doctor. Hound her for answers until you are satisfied with the answers you get. InshaAllah you will be fine.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

Hi Khumar.
I also use the pill a while coz my menstruation was not right,
I dont get my periods every month or sometimes i get it in 1 month
2 time's. So the doctor say use the pill i use it and now everything is alright.
But i hate to use the pill coz i get sick of it. Now my periods are fine i dont use
it anymore, and because i want a baby.
Ive heard of some girls if they use the pill they get rid of their acne.
But it is up 2 you if you want use it or not.

Nilu.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

Aren't the blood clot risks minimal. They only increase with smoking.

Talk to the doctor and get the doctor to talk to your mother. Her hang-ups with the contraceptive drugs may have other reasons.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

From personal experience, oh yea you will put on some weight. I gained 11 pounds in 3 months. I’ve never had problems with weight, Thank God, but with the pill I did. Not fun!

As far as acne, i’ve never had problems with that, but i never noticed the pill make my skin any better, i think only some pills do that.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

Yes, blood clots are a minimal risk, but the risk increases with age...and if you smoke on top of that, they will just not prescribe it for you because the risk becomes too much. The risk can be even more minimized by taking one baby aspirin a day.

Depo-Provera is a shot you take once every 3 months. It shuts down your ovaries and prevents a normal cycle from happening. Once you stop the shots, it "should" take about 3 months to return to a normal cycle. But its becoming more and more evident that this doesnt happen esp for women in their 30s. Birth control pills regulate, rather than stop, the cycle and are therefore beneficial to women who have irregular cycles. Depo is a horrible drug, one that should be used only for child molesters (its the same drug given to "chemically castrate" men). I've dealt with so very many inferile women (myself included) who became infertile after taking it. And in all my dealings with infertility specialists and infertile women, I've never met one whose infertility was due to "the pill". Rather, the pill has helped many women overcome infertility and irregular cycles

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

could you give me some advice…im just in a dilemma at the moment on deciding whether or not to take the pill??? the major thing im worried about is the weight gain and other serious side effects? but i think i should take it for birth control…im in a muddle …my friend took the pill and she said dont take it…she gained weight, it messed up her periods and she got loads of hair growth especially on her face?

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

Devoted, non of us are knowledgeable enough in medicine to give you advice on that, you should really go see a gynecologist. They will answer all your questions; tell you which pill is right for you. There are different dosages, allergies, past history, all that stuff that only your doctor can advice you on.

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don’t bother clicking. it’s a boring read)

yes thats true…i suppose im hoping to hear what i want to hear and not neccessarily whats right!

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

thankyou guys sooo much for your replies. you have no idea how much it helps.

so yea, i forgot to mention that it was by a gynie. based on my history, that is what she recommended me. i am not taking it for birth control, but basically to fix this annoying problem of my period. and if it can help my ance too, then aik teer say do shikar :D. (oh btw, i went to a dermatologist too...didn't really help...sooo yea).

umm basically from what i hear, taking diane 35 is not a bd option. i can deal with the weight problem. i think some people would even be happier that i have begun to gain some...:p and since i don't smoke, i think i don't have to worry about the clots. oh thanx for the aspirin advice. i will be sure to talk to my doc about it.

ummm well basically now my main hurdle is talking to mom about. i know she is adamant and against it. i think. khair. i think i will go armed with printouts of this thread! :p

again, thanks guys for your help!

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

The weight gain issue is really just based on you and yoru body.. Some peopel gain weight and some people dont gain weight at all. I think alot of it is in your head...like I know girls who after they started the pill, they relaxed their diet and gained weight blaming the pill. I have kept up with my diet and exercise same as when I was not on the pill..and my weight hasnt fluctuated so far....

Re: Diane 35 (boys, don't bother clicking. it's a boring read)

hi...had to bring this thread out again.

Part 2 of the question:

Once you do get off the pills, for whatever reasons, ...what happens? does your cleanup crew go back to it's old schedule? or does it stay the way it was when on the pill? what about the whole advantageous part...the acne etc etc? does it stay the same when on the pill? and what if you want to go back on it...how long to wait? do the old side-effects come back?
