Prime has started playing Dhuwan from today on. Those who missed it during the day can catch in at 11 pm today according to the Dish guide (please, don’t beat me up if it doesn’t play on time).
For those who don’t know about this play:
Dhuwan was one of PTV’s first action dramas and definitely its finest along with Alpha Bravo Charlie and Aahan. The story was penned by a certain Ashir Azeem who also played one of the lead characters of the drama. This drama made actors like Nabeel, Nazli Nasr household names. I could be wrong but if I remember correctly these were the times when Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s songs/qawwalis used to come on well into the night when nobody watched TV. One particular scene in this drama used a NFAK track in the background, which probably made everyone in Pakistan who watched this drama cry (I cried too as difficult as that must be to believe). And thus NFAK took the first step towards superstardom, IMO.
The story is about a bunch of guys (Nabeel, and the terrorist dude from Seeli Baarish among others) who led by Ashir Azeem (a police inspector) are trained and hired as an elite force which is designed to carry out special missions. Nayyar Ijaz plays the villain and is very, very believable - those who’ve seen him would know that he’s an excellent actor. The writing is rock solid, full of suspense, and quite funny and witty at times. :k:
Also, did I mention that all the “stunts” in this drama were real. In one particular scene, the actors including Ashir got injured when he broke through a glass window. Excellent stuff, must watch for any drama fan. Surely one of the top five dramas produced by PTV.
That's the only scene I remember from this drama, when nabeel dies and they play nfak's song. I cried too!!! I caught the episode today, what better way to spend time day before an exam?
My sister and I were on the floor because of the 'gym' scene. Goodness. grin
there was a reason why I said there was A scene where the song was played and not spelt out what exactly happened in the scene. lets not give away the plot for people who haven't seen it? thanks :-)
waisay, I can kinda relate about the gym scene, these guys were too good looking for their own good. ;-)
This drama was FABULOUS. Wonder wherever Ashir Azeem disappeared? It also had a really good she-villain - I remember her name was Rijaa. Really cool stuff and awesome background score [courtesy NFAK] - that qawalli was 'Kissi da yaar na bichrey' and MAN seriously it was VERY VERY touching the last episode REALLLLLLY made u cry - AMAZING STUFF!
Well why else would all of pakistan cry if it wasn’t someone DYING. Ok folks, I lied, Nabeel is getting married, we all cried tears of joy. better?
Too good looking? I swear they must have pulled a few hamstrings swinging their legs above their heads like that. THAT could not have been a gym! It was more like a study room in some basement, it had book shelves and lamps for heaven’s sake!
the dude was a Customs officer in real life - before, during and after the drama. I reckon he's just a young patriotic guy (you can't help but have respect for them), so he wrote up this script and thought it was pretty good and decided to make a play out of it. he probably didn't even realize what an amazing job he'd done. he also wanted to show the other side of the police though this drama - the good side. it was a neat idea to show people that there are decent people in the police force as well especially when they were doing really poorly PR-wise.
I remember reading an article about some new initiative at the Karachi airport (I think) and Ashir Azeem's name was mentioned in it 'cause he is a big shot there now and was responsible for the VIP's protocol etc and he got an award there too. I couldn't confirm if it was the same guy but seemed like it. :)
One of the best things that I liked about the drama though was the moral dilemmas that Ashir faced when he had to deal with a piss poor druggie. He wants to jail him but his wife comes and starts wailing and blames Ashir and his subordinates for rounding up the weak, powerless victims and not having the guts to go for the big fish who actually run these drug operations. Also, does anyone remember the very last scene the in the drama? I thought it was a very nice, optimistic touch to show that there were more sons of the soil who were similar in nature to Ashir and his gang.
I see...so this guy is a customs officer .... cool! Just goes on to show what Pakistanis can do provided they take some initiative! This drama deserves to be in my DVD collection....!
Incidentally another customs officer who made great stuff for TV and cinema was Rauf Khalid - the director/scrip writer/producer of dramas like Angaar Waadi and Laag. He later went on to make the feature film 'Laaj'. Guess PTV shd go talent hunting among these customs folks eh?
Samby I worry for you sometimes. Are you really a guy? I mean deep down in your heart of hearts are you a woman maybe? Your crushes on so many men really give me doubts.
