Dhoni's brilliance

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

exactly. leave it to indians to elevate this kid to superstar status and than demand that he be banned from the indian cricket team for life if he doesn’t perform in the next inning.

he certainly has talent and drive, but it will take a while to see if he has the consistency required for international cricket.

as far as comparisons to Afridi, i think Dhoni’s realistic potential is to be a much better player than Afridi. he will either fulfill this potential are fizzle out far before getting the chance. I agree with whoever said he is more like Sehwag than Afridi. like Sehwag, i think Dhoni still qualifies as a proper batsman who just happens to be very aggressive. Afridi is not a batsman, but a pure slogger.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

Fact that there was no expectation from him because everyone knew he is a slogger who is not reliable.
No one is talking about Bowling here. Yes Afridi is a better player as whole because of his bowling. When it comes to batting his record sucks expect for some quickfire 50 and 100s.

Funny.. You are using expectation as the reason of his low averages. As if there was expectation then he would make it. Come on. He is simply not capable of being consistant and the reason is he is over agressive and cannot select his shots.

PS: I dont respond to personel insults.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

I am not impressed by Dhoni's technique...but I have not been a great fan of Afridi's technique either.

But who cares about copy-book elegant technique anymore. One-dayers have rendered that old school. One-day games are blatantly skewed in favor of "ITEM PLAYERS" (like Bollywoood movies has ITEM SONGS) e.g. Afridi, Dhoni, Pietersen etc....the days of Gavaskar, Zaheer Abbas, David Gowers have long gone.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

:rotfl:

Yes..I remember coaches saying that dont let your shot go in Air.Always play in V. Develop good footwork. Sehwags of today have proved that all you need is good Eye.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

OK, lemme put myself on the line here... Dhoni will not be part of the indian squad for the 2007 WC in West Indies. Write that on the wall.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

^ quite a statement... ho ya na ho.. i hope Pak beats india this time ...

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

The guy has got class but let him perform consistently and also abroad before we elevate him to Shewag or Afridi status. Afridi is a slogger, Shewag a better slogger and batsmen than Afridi, so the question is does Dhoni want to be bracketed with these two or does he want to rise to Gilchrist level. Time will tell.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

The jury is still out on whether that would be considered an “elevation” or “descent”.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

^ u mean gavaskar :hehe:

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

^^ ^^ Some 1 bhai we dont need to decide if it is an elevation or descent. Ask yourself honestly and you will get the answer. If not than ask kumble or irfan pathan or ask F & B who opened this thread several months ago.

Insaaan ko koi deen eeman hee nahin hota. Kabh fan bun jatay hain aur kabhee kehtay hain kay we wish he won’t be like Afridi since it will be a total waste.
I wonder what do you call a person who is a fan of a waste. A loooser??

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

^ hahahaha ---- gud one fkhan2

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

Khan Saab,

Didn't you read what I said about ITEM PLAYERS. They are entertaining but often not reliable.

If you are into stocks, think of Afiridi as a short-term volatile trading stock and Dravid/Inzy etc as reliable long-term Investment stock.

If not than ask kumble or irfan pathan

Stupid comment...you only remember those instances when Afirdi got the better of these bowlers...also remember those reverse stituations when he was taken out cheaply by these bowlers...

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

Here you go my friend.

Afridi’s gilli ooring to Pathan :

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

I cant believe you people go on such lengths to compare two totally different players, in style, the way they hit the ball, technique etc. shakes his head

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

^Not to mention that Afridi is a PATHAN and Dhoni is a BIHARI
On second thoughts, that may not be a difference.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

btw, Saby aren't you in Pakistan ? It must be wee hours in the morning there. Don't you have anything better to do ?

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

I agree with Saby on this, I dont see the need for comparison. Dhooni played a good innings, for the sake of Indian fans let's hope he keeps up the good work and play many more valuable innings for India and provide entertaining batting to all of us. He is technically a better batsman then Afridi although Afridi's ability to hit the ball far far away still stays unmatched.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

Just for the record, the guy who started this thread is a Paki.

btw, I think I am done for today.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

I am in pakistan and I have better things to do but I choose not to do

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

Two pages already and no one has compared him to Don Bradman. hmmmm...
God damn people. Why do you guys have to compare every lallu-panju to Afridi... Afridi vs this, Afridi vs. that. Why, I ask?
