Dhoni's brilliance

hi,
just thought that it would be such a paki thing to do to not discuse/pay tribute to this marvelous preformance in the 3rd ODI against SL. although i did not watch the game, i did read about it and its no mean feat doing what that guy did!
must be afridis big brother!! or even his daddy!! (lol)

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

^^ Dhoni played one hell of a knock that day. He was simply unstoppable that day. His performacne was matchless that day.
Do you know why I am stressing on "that day"? Because it was just on one day he played a class knock. However to be afridi's brother or daddy he has to play several such innings. Remember afridi has got 2 fastest centuries in world cricket and more than couple of fastest 50's. Let Dhoni make a fast century first if not fastest and than we will discuss. Right now he is not even close to be Afridi's sperm.
Having said that I totally understand the importance of outstanding performances on a particular day in the Indian cricket history. After all they only get few of these days in a decade and than it is totally understandable the enthusiasm of indians fans. However just don't make stupid comparisons:D .

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

dhoni bats like a dhobi...i think if some1 who have mind and skill to move the ball,he will easily able to get him out... he is not at a classical player to watch...his style makes him look a typical indo-paki boy trying to hit every thing on the leg side haha...

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

there you go :smack:

He played a heck of a inning, one that was treat to watch but its to early to compare him with afridi let him grow, let him play few more of those inning before you can compare him with Afridi. At most you can say he has same germs that Afridi has but for now he is not even a doodh-shareek-bhai of afridi

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

Comparing Dhoni to Afridi is intresting. I think Dhoni is more compact player than Afridi. Similarity is that both of them use huge of power in their shots.Similarity ends here.
Afridi can play many more devastating shots but will give more chances than Dhoni.
Dhoni mostly plays straight bat.His brute-force shots are usually in V.
Also he has capability of playing long inning. In his short career he has 2 hundrededs ( 148 & 183) where as Afridi's all 3 hundered were between 100 and 110. Also keep in mind that Dhoni got very limited opprtunity to bat on top of order. 2 Centuries in 7 inning.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

I say Dhoni is like Aamran Khatmal
c when their place in team is in jeopardy they play one knock which elevates them and everyone talks bout thgeir brilliance and then later for the next 15 games they play bad and once again when there are talks of removin them, they shine again, overall dhone played brilliantly, I watched the shots and most of the shots were like a hard knocing slap to the ball

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

Just to add to your observation Dhoni made both of his 100s batting at number 3, a chance that Afridi v rarely got in the start of his carrer although i agree with you at the point that Dhoni has capability to stay on the wicket longer than Afridi.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

True…but 2 hundered in 7 innings at top.. Compare that to 4 hundreds in 151 inning at top. Another comparision is average of 49 vs 24.

Though I must say that there is to few data point on Dhoni to make any judgment for now. It is skewed.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

His place was not in Jeopardy. He played very well in his last 4-5 innign when he got chance to bat.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

I know Dhoni’s avg is almost the double of Afridi’s I guess we should sit back and give the lad a fair chance to play atleast 25-30 ODI innings before we can judge his sucess or faliure.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

he played a very good innings but some of the indian press is comparing him to gilchrist!!

I hope he does very good in the future too but lets not get too carried away

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

I wouldnt want to compare the stayle of two players…of what i have seen dhoni play in Last yrs 4 ODI’s against Pak and then the H/L’s of this innings i think his technique is alot different than Afridi, unlike Afridi who stands tall and when he hits the ball his body is pretty upright and he looks (from standing up in his stance to impact and then into his follow through) seems very rythematic, where as Dhoni he seems to wind up alot and has a very clear shuffle towards the off stump before the impact, and again the before the impact he windsup in which he takes the bat towards Gully and then hits through the line of the ball, with far Lesser Foot Work than Afridi(He is more Like Sehwag than Afridi) and relies more on his Bat Swing!!! With the initial movement of his feet and the big Wind up of his he is more likely of getting caught behind or playing at a ball wheich he doesnt want to, than Afridi.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

\

Easy Easy!!! You are getting too carried away here!!! yeah he scored two hundreds but both of his 100’s came on FLat Indian Tracks!!!

Also dont brag too much about Dhoni’s average!!!, It is still too early. Not every one can be ** lucky** enough to end up being a Great after writing a Book about Achievement in** 4 Years of international Cricket and 2400+ test runs!!!**

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

lol indians just wait for a moment to claim they have unearthed thier own afridi! there is only 1 and only Afridi! no1 can match his devastation! his agressions is god given, he is a Pakhtun, you cannot breed aggression its just there! all this non sense of comparing any1 to afridi is simply naaive!

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

just curious, did Dhoni up'ped his Milk intake i.e. from 4(?) litres to 6 or 8 litres now?

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

Very Sensible post.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

Easy Easy…

2 hundred on lame wickets agree.. lets check where did Mr. Afridi scored his 100s. :stuck_out_tongue: Must be on Perth. Dude it is Nairobi, Sharjah, Kanpur and Toronto. Also one hundred every 50 inning. If Dhoni got chance to play 150 inning at top of the order I am sure he will do better than him.

I dont expect him to be great. Did you see any comparision with Gilchirsit. We are talking about Afridi here. Talking of averagae.I dont know what future holds for him. But I guarntee that it wont be 24.

Very Sutpid post Nikerma.

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

Hum…We wish he is NOT like Afridi. That will be total waste.

It is Pakistani who are comparing.

Re: Dhoni's brilliance

^^^ Nothing against Dhoni as a Batsman or Wikcet keeper Batsman!!!!!

Lets talk about expectation level of Afridi from a Pakistani team POV, u have followed pakistani cricket very closely for last decade or so, now tell me if Afridi was ever expected to score hundred's in Pak, forget about 100's all he has been expected off in the first (atleast) 7 years of career, was to Score a quick 20-40, bowl his overs quickly to improve the over rate, take wicket if he can but mostly conceede less than 4.5 RPO and save some while fielding!!!

NOBODY< and i repeat NOBODY has expected him to score 100's. So his bad average from the expectation that he carries is not bad at all(atleast to me) and off course Dhoni is going to end up with better average than Afridi, offcourse coz the expectation from him are to score runs on the Desi Wickets and he is going to keep on doing that!!!

Not to mention the fact that, some ex-indian cricketer last year admitted that "In last 20 Years of Cricket" it seems like that the purpose of an Indian players when playing against Pak is that at end of series he average 45(exatly same as what u are bragging about dhoni in 150 games) and of a Pakistani is to beat India.

Very Very Stupid stance FB, or i should say Indian kindaa response!!!! 3 Years of KK hasnt tought u any cricketing sense!!!!!!

Re: Dhoni’s brilliance

Trying to Save ur Ass!!!
