What does kailash mean in Kabir’s following line?
na mein deval na mein masjid, na kabe kailash mein
Whats the difference between deval and Mandir?
@KKF @the_kaur @Southie
Moreover, we know Buddhist worship places as stupas, like one found in Moen jo Daro. Is this Stupa a local word or there are separate names in different regions of India for Buddhist worship places?

Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
I think so. The kaur knows more.
Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
It is called Kailash Mansarovar lake, it is believed in Hindus that Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra originate from that Sarovar on Mount Kailash
Mount Kailash is abode of Shiva.
Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
What does Sarovar mean?
what about deval? Is there any difference between deval and Mandir?
Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
Sarovar is lake
Deval is braj word for devalaya, means home of Devas, while the higher trinity is worshipped in Mandi
Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
so Kailash as well as Kaaba are deval (being home of God). That makes sense and tell us that Kabir knew concepts from both the religions.
What about Buddhist worship places? How they are referred other than Stupa?

Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
oh yeah, Golden Pagodas…these are scattered across Thailand. Pagoda kaa kalas golden hotaa hai.
however, i think there are ONLY stupas in Baudh Gaya, near Mirzapur in UP. Pagodas aren’t found in India to the best of my knowledge. i would like to know the reasons behind this though.
Urdu meN church ko Kaleesa kahte haiN.

Sanchi is very small railway station in MP, but one can see stupa on a Hill top from train itself
I think Dharamshala and Tawang are Pagodas
I think Islamic languages would have some word for church as Islam knew Christianity from begining while Hinduism can into contact only after arrival of Brits. I think before Brits, Muslims woundn’t have had contacts with christians for centuries

Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
buddhists dont worship, they meditate.
but today buddhism has everything from pagan style temples to cave and jungle monasteries. its a vast group of diverse religions.
and a stupa is a mound made over sacred remains. kinda like a mazar, i guess
Re: Deval, kaaba, Kailash
In Arabic, Church was Kanīsa. Don’t know how it converted to Kaleesa. @KKF
Arabs did have contacts with Christians and they have battles with Romans even during the life of Prophet. Muslims of sub-continent, however, introduced to Christians lately through British. There were same kind of rumors about Christians (goras) as European had for Arab Muslims. They eat your children
