i think Kaneesa means Synagogue.

In Quran there is a verse which refers worship places (for other religions) other than Masjid. Probably Sura e Kahaf.. Let me check

biyaʿun= Church
ṣalawātun](The Quranic Arabic Corpus - Word by Word Grammar, Syntax and Morphology of the Holy Quran) = Synagogue

Interesting to note that worship places Monastery, Church and Masjid are masculine in Arabic, whereas Synagogue is feminine noun.

In Arabic, Church was Kanīsa. Don’t know how it converted to Kaleesa. @KKF

Arabs did have contacts with Christians and they have battles with Romans even during the life of Prophet. Muslims of sub-continent, however, introduced to Christians lately through British. There were same kind of rumors about Christians (goras) as European had for Arab Muslims. They eat your children

Rakshas were considered to be tall and brutal, brits appeared similar in this case with their monkey skin tone :)

Interestingly, a Molvi saheb told this saying of the Prophet (not sure about authenticity) in presence of one of my lamboo cousin: All tall men lack wisdom except Omar (the second caliph).
