Re: #desinameproblem

Hmri soch ktni mlti julti hy na

Re: #desinameproblem

5 letter long and the contains an and an I. It gets butchered like a cow on bari eid. .. yeah!!! #igotnameproblems](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=igotnameproblems)

Re: #desinameproblem

Mine is an american name but it gets butchered from desis and Mexicans. Desis pronounce my name is Jo-el as in Noel and mexicans make the J silent as hesus for Jesus.

Re: #desinameproblem

Names and stuff. Ya know.

Mahboob. Yeah…it’s pretty obvious what that gets butchered to.

Our people can’t say some desi names either :phati:

One of our friends actually got mad when someone kept saying “Sauna” She’s like no, it’s Sana, not saaaaaauna.

Just curious, how do you pronounce you name? I wanna make sure I’m saying it right in my head too :hehe:

Oh this reminds me, of this I saw a while ago

Umm..yeah.

I guess no one’s immune eh :bummer:

Re: #desinameproblem

It’s pronounced Mezh-gone. The -zh is like -sh but replace the s with z. That tends to throw people off. :hehe:

Re: #desinameproblem

In that case, count us with the British. We have butchered it too.

Re: #desinameproblem

your name has letter ZA [with 3 dots on top] with sounds like DUAAD but in former case the tip of the tongue touches the bottom of the upper frontal teeth to make that sound.

also, the N in ur name has a noon Ghunnah [nasal ‘N’]

Re: #desinameproblem

Oh damn, I’ve been saying it Mez-gun in my head all along :bummer:

So it’s…Mesh-gone? How is the Z pronounced?

And is it my fault that my name is Anas Butt :frowning:

Re: #desinameproblem

No it’s not TLK :phati:

Re: #desinameproblem

For the z, replace the the s in the -sh sound with a z. The -zh sound is almost sound like a soft g sound, rather like the g in protégé or décolletage.

In Dari, I spell it this way مژگان

Re: #desinameproblem

so its like mejh-gone?

Re: #desinameproblem

Ah, I gotcha. Thanks!

Now your name totally sounds Afghani, pronounced the right way

Re: #desinameproblem

same as in Faarsii and Urdu…MiZgaaN means eyelashes. it’s extensively used in Urdu poetry.

Re: #desinameproblem

ohh you’ve got that not-often-used letter in your name! that’s a very hard letter to pronounce normally. it’s got a mix between a YA and Z sound.

In dari does that letter get used a lot?

Re: #desinameproblem

we should have her do the audio upload

Re: #desinameproblem

It does get used a bit but I wouldn’t say it’s super common. I would say it is more commonly used than in Urdu though. Quite a few names have it, like:

  • Fozhan, a feminine name meaning “loud voice”
  • Manizheh, name of a female character in the epic poem the *Shahnama *(“Book of Kings”).
  • Bizhan, a male name based on a character in the Shahnama
  • Mozhdeh, a female name meaning “good news”
  • Nazhin, a supposedly unisex name derived from a type of tree. I say supposedly as I’ve never met a guy with this name. :hehe:

Re: #desinameproblem

What is the meaning of Mezhgan?

Mezban is host… :hmmm:

Re: #desinameproblem

It means “eyelashes.”
