My name is also short and sweet…only 4 letters…every now and then some idiot will pronounce it all twisted to where it rhymes with “mushroom”…seriously?!? Like it’s harder for you to do that then to pronounce it correctly lol!!!
I have one. First day of the class in my grad school. Class is half Indians and half Chinese. Prof a white Texan. During roll call he suddenly stops. Struggles a bit. Calls ‘Gay’. Nobody answers. He goes ‘Amit Gay’. All Indians are laughing now. Chinese confused. His name was Ghai.
My name is 5 words long. It’s often destroyed by people who can’t pronouce it properly. It’s come to a point where i’ve changed it to the “english pronunciation” yet they still manage to get it wrong, or just give me a nickname with my first 3 letters. I find it disrespectful sometimes.
On rear occasions when I tell an asian my name, and they know how to pronouce it right, it makes my day
My first name is the same as my GS name. It’s a Dari name and gets butchered quite a bit. The British assume it’s a variation of the name Megan (as in Megan Fox) and often pronounce it that way. More irritating is when Iranians correct me about the supposedly correct pronunciation. Pronunciation is relative as there a few different dialects of Persian/Dari (even within Iran), so no! I’m not pronouncing it wrong!
I have a Pashto middle name as well but that usually doesn’t get butchered as the the only speak who call me that speak Pashto and know how to pronounce it.
