Desi Relief at the Movies

Re: Desi Relief at the Movies

When I was back in the college, we would wait for the movie to be shown in the one-dollar theater. The $dollar theater would start showing about a week before the movie was released into DVD and it would show only big movies. And thats not a desi thing btw. The dollar theaters were house-full (of goras) on week days, espeically on Tuesdays because it was half price. So, on Tuesdays' the movie would cost $0.50 cents. I am talking about more than a decade ago, in Michigan. The dollar theaters do still exist and and from a recent article I read, they do better business than full-price theaters.

You have to wait for the movie to be shown on the dollar theater but the price was good, the wait was worth and you knew that the movie was good to be able to make it to the dollar theater. Hey, it was cheaper than renting from Block Buster, well, unless you were craving for popcorn. A large bucket with extra butter with a cup of drink was still more than $10 back than while watching 0.50 cent movie.

Re: Desi Relief at the Movies

invest in a spacious bag and do things the brown way.

Re: Desi Relief at the Movies

Here, we don't even have to pay, we watch Indian movies for free (and the American ones they play).

Asif now here dollar cinemas charge 2.00$ and on Tuesdays its 1$. So yeah it still works good for us. And soda and popcorn is cheap too. :D

constipation knows not any boundaries

Re: Desi Relief at the Movies

Have kids, kiss goodbye to theatre going days (paying for one, sneaking in a 2nd and then 3rd). Masla solved!

Wait till the movie comes on PPV. Total cost = $4.99 plus the effort of putting kids to bed -this part is very important.

Watch it while sipping home made chai and bazaar bought cookies. Total bliss!

:eek:where do you live?

dude what you do is take a handbag(doesnt matter if you’re a male, stick some wrestler pictures on it)and stuff it with all the junk you can buy.

ive seen a family of 4 eating a whole mcdonalds meal each in the cinema before, dont know how they sneaked that in

ive also seen an indian guy with a plastic box full of samosay and other asian goodies.

its doable!

:yummy:

i think desis dont buy such "fazooliat/paisey ka zya" so they have nothing to say about it lol

Re: Desi Relief at the Movies

but i agree, drink and popcorn combo costs even more than the ticket lol

I am impressed by our desi talent :smooth:

Apart from the few times when we are in a ‘shahana mood’ and buy nachos and popcorns etc., I just carry a large bag.. just cos it’s my style you know :halo:

Re: Desi Relief at the Movies

$9? where u living? $5/ticket and go after dinner problem solved.

not a fan of popcorn, so not an issue. but did buy bottled water a few times for 4x the market price. made sure I drank it as slowly as possible to get my money's worth and to maximize the enjoyment.

In US movie theaters/cinema halls they do not allow you to bring anthing you did not buy from their concession stand, that is why you see all the whiners ( I included in the list) complaining about it. :snooty:

Re: Desi Relief at the Movies

hit up bulk barn before you go and buy all the candy from there.
