I have to regretfully inform all of you that one of the hubs of desi cultural activity in NYC has been shut down. Yes folks, it’s true. Kebab King of Jackson Heights
is shut down by the NYC’s Commission of Health & Mental Sanitation. Many desis called the place to enjoy their tasty kebaba and an occassional creaming/shouting match between the patrons the management. Once in a while, an auntie would join the fray and things would get really interesting. I, however, never heard two aunties do gali galoch or moonh nuchaayee.
Please take a moment to share your good memories of the food and fights from Kebab King.
king king kabab king may have died but their jingle lives on forever..and those horrible images of the king himself and his asorted pals lipsyncing while holding up plates of mediocre looking food.
Ghareeb Nawaz in Chicago (devon/damen) too was shut down after being reported for unhygenic conditions by its jealous competitors. But, like the mythical phoenix it rose from its ashes and is now more cleaner, cheaper and way more popular than ever before. Go there and stand in line breakfast any given morning and you'll see much more than just desi people lined up.
cheegum if places were shut down just on allegations then desi places would be closing on a daily basis. There may ahve been allegations but health inspectors have to find enough evidence to warrant a closure.

Allegations kis nay kaha. The place was a mess for sure but alot of desi people reported it for the wrong reasons.

but..just on reports it cant be closed, reports can prompt a inspection. the health inspectors have to find enough issues during the inspection that a closure is warranted.
