my reaction to that last message was, of course it is good to know. i would be happy if the other human being i am talking to is ok and good. i wouldnt want anyone to be injured etc. so if you are good and fine that’s good to know.

Therefore, we can only guess as to what is going on with this guy since we can’t see his facial expressions. So here are some possibilities for what he might have meant when he said, “So you care about me?”:
1) He’s interested in you (perhaps more than a friend) and that’s why he asked you such an unnecessary question.

**3) **He thinks of you as a friend and is going through a rough time. Perhaps he’s sad. Perhaps he feels that people in his life don’t care about him. And he was happy that you care about him…that’s why he asked the question.
4) He wants to flatter himself that somebody cares about him. The next time he says, “So you care about me?” Say something smart like “Well only if you care about me.”
5) He’s drunk. Or he’s on some kind of medication that causes brain farts…resulting in strange unnecessary questions.

*Well we are pretty tight and if there was some problem or if he was going through a rough time I would have known. This is the first time he asked me this today. Normally every time we talk on MSN the same routine is followed, how are you? i am good n u? i am fine? that's good to know! oh really :) *

I have told him a million times that you are my friend and that’s it. You are a friend albeit a very good one. I have told him this so I assumed it is not necessary to say it again and he would know that I do care about him but as a friend only.
