Eastern Dresses - thanks for you help but I AM a pretty calm and patient person when I put my mind to it.
Yelly - those are very nice pictures..I liked them a lot - but they're not the style I'm looking for - but thanks anyway!
Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
That DID look like an amazing wedding. God bless the happy couple. Thank you kit runner for the post.
Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
After many hours of Skype sessions with mommy dearest, we agreed to do the mehndi event typically Pakistani and the wedding the day after can be more moderate...multi cultural. So these are some ideas of dresses I'd like to wear...the pictures show the dress white - but I actually tried on an antique gold version which was more awesome:

So what do you guys think?
I'm also organizing 5 bridesmaids who will wear turquoise, flower girl who will wear white with turquoise accessories (belt or shoes), have no ring bearer as I know no little boys so I guess we'll leave that up to the best man. If my bridesmaids are wearing turquoise - what color should the groomsmen wear? Also should I wear turquoise shoes - they'll be hidden anyway...
And if anyone is interested - we're not getting a magician because we changed our wedding theme....to travel...
Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
why not ask the guy if he has any nephews or cousins who can be ring bearers?
Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
kakee..."the guy"(haha) has no little nephews or cousins...we hardly have any children at he wedding (thank god for that!)
Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
Oh my god, I went through the same - glad I'm not alone.
My wedding is in August and even though my mother got me a white outfit similar to the ones posted for my nikkah, she got it with emerald green border/lining - when I asked her not to. It's a frock with churidar - haven't seen it yet.
What I'm going to do now is secretly rent/buy white dress and wear it for our outdoor photoshoot. He really wants to see me in a traditional white dress because he says I'm pure unlike most girls who wear white and that's what it's supposed to symbolise. I'm going to try on stuff this weekend.

Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
I came across a blog by chance the other day where the bride was white but a quarter desi and her bridegroom was indian.. They had 3 different parts to it I think, it was brilliant.. I remember one being traditional english, one bollywood style.. one was in marrakech.. gorgeous pictures.. it’s annoying me so much that I can’t find it now ![]()

black suits with a turquoise tie? but i would do a very pale turquoise with a pattern, maybe. self embossed or with a bit of gold? and yes to the turquoise shoes! how fun! you could also opt for gold, silver, or white shoes and get a fun turquoise pedicure.
also, yay travel! i just did this fab invitation set designed to look like vintage boarding passes for a couple having a destination wedding. came out fab! its an excellent, fun theme and theres so much you can do with it!
Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
Hey everyone - thanks all for your posts. We have come to a decision. Wedding will be two days: Mehndi and Reception.
For the day of the Mehndi, we're going all out desi style. Clothes, music, decor, maybe even food (altho we will have many non-desi people so thinking maybe Lebanese food: mezzah and grill). My fiance has agreed to come with me to Karachi to pick out his shalwar kurta for the mehndi. He loves blue and wants a blue kurta. I'm letting him have it even though it's non-traditional mehndi color. I still dunno what I'M going to wear. The fun part is that a lot of his German friends and family want desi clothes too! I'm going to have to look for desi stores in Dubai as I don't know many.
If anyone knows a desi DJ, photographer, mehndi decorator and if you could suggest a venue for the mehndi, I would REALLY appreciate it. i don't want a fancy ballroom for the mehndi. I want it to be more casual. I'm going to see if I can book out a restaurant.
For the wedding, I'm wearing a white lacey dress - that I still have to design, find a tailor, and have it made! Ugh. So much to do!
Conniety - thanks for your idea but i really don't like the look of red and white.
cat-woman - So nice to hear that I'm not lone either! Are you telling your mom you're going to do an outdoor shoot? How sneaky and mischievous - I love it!
Deeba - that sounds like a lovely wedding, however maybe too glamorous for me? I'm having enough trouble with 2 events - let alone 3.
somegroovy chick - my fiance is going to be wearing a black tux with a pale turquoise tie. I like the idea of it being patterned. That's why I don't want the groomsmen to wear turquoise ties. Maybe turquoise boutonnières. and oooh...turquoise pedicure....hmmmm...
We both love to travel and thought that's the theme that's would best represent us at our wedding. We still have so much to do but you're right there are so many things you can do with this theme. I was thinking of lining the invitation envelopes with vintage maps...and was going to do either luggage tags or boarding passes as place-cards! Can't wait to do this!
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome of course! Dunno if I should start a new thread for this.
Re: Desi+Gora Wedding Help!
I bought the dress! First one I tried on and loved it! My mother and I talk everyday and she was supposed to get me a white walima outfit, and she confirmed it was not white but more on the gold side! So i told her about the dress and she couldn't say much cos I laid the blame on my fiance ;-) I don't have a pic of it as it's getting fitted at the moment but will be sure to share photos!
boarding passes/luggage tags as place cards sound groovy!!
what are boutonnieres?
